[cool][#0000ff]More bad news for western waters. Quagga mussels have been found in Lake Mead. These are a form of the dreaded zebra mussels and once they get a toehold, they are there forever. Nothing eats them and they really impact the environment by siphoning out tons of plankton and nutrients needed by both game fish and shad.[/#0000ff]

Powell might be the first Utah water to get mussells, but others will follow - Flaming Gorge, Bear Lake, Strawberry to name a few.
California just enacted emergency legislation to deal with the quagga. When they arrive they will bring a bundle of headaches to Utah fisheries

Wow, this is a big story. I have experience in the Great Lakes with these little rascals. They attach to anything in the water. Time to move to Mead and start a new business, cleaning boat hulls.
