Lots of people on ice, especially in a couple cities on east end by inlet, and few small groups scattered on west end by dam. Darn cold when a couple fog banks blew in. Amazing the wind pushing them around on an otherwise nice morning.
Now for the punch line, OK fishing but nothing near keep-you-warm. Four of us ended up with 12 trout 8AM-12PM (well actually just me and son, other two were trout-deprived this day). Couple in 16 - 18" range, rest just slimers.
Few little perch. Anyone been finding perch, perhaps those groups straight across on otjer side from boat landing? Couplke years ago we got messes of 4-5" perch. Where is that year class now?

Started over by the south end near the dam, and nothing. Nobody around us caught anything either.
We then went over by the beach area (north side) and even though we'd see them on the finder, we couldn't get them to bite. Location is everything, because some older gentleman was not 40 yards away and was catching a few nice 'bows. Of course, he was powerbaitin' it, something I try not to do.
He told me that the perch are making a comeback after being nearly non-existant over the last couple of years. He said that lots of the bigger 'bows have some of the small perch in their stomachs.

Lavaman, did you try getting up to porcupine, just wondering about the road.

DrPepper, I did not get up there like I originally wanted. Got a late start so I wanted to hit somewhere closer.
I'll try Porcupine this next Saturday though. Hopefully the roads will have minimal ice on them- especially that stretch that goes up to the dam.

Thanks lavaman, I may have a day this week to make it up there, either wed. or thur. If i make it I'll post how I do.

Where do you park at Porcupine? Is the only access down the steep around the dam?

I fished by the dam on Sunday evening for a few hours. I didn't get a single bite. [

joyride, I haven't been up there yet this year to fish but I usually park right on the north end of the dam unless there is to many vehicles there, otherwise just follow the road further and there's usually room around that first corner. I may try the atv and park down by the bottom of the dam, but not sure, I haven't done that before. good luck if you go up.

Looking forward to your reports if you head up there this week, drpepper. Looks like I'll be there Saturday morning to ice me a few Kokes
