I have ice fished before but this is the first year I have really gone after the hard water fish so I have a lot of learning to go... reading some of the posts and taking a lesson from my fishing experiences this year I think I have noticed a trend..

In general is the ice fishing better near the beginning of the season near "ice on"... it seems to me that the fishing was really hot after first ice on and has slowly trickled off.. is that the general pattern or is late season ice fishing just as good and there has just been a lull on some of the lakes..

I want to thank a lot of the guys on this board that have helped me in my first year of real hard water fishing.. I got so excited and had so much fun I purchased a new sled, about our more poles, a digital fish finder, a flasher, a power auger, learned about ice cutr's and purchased untold amounts of tackle all in pursuit of my new favorite winter activity.. thanks guys..

Your theory has merit.

But, I think there are ways to still have GREAT days in late season ice fishing. It's all about changing things up. People get in a rut of using the same things, in the same areas that they fished at ice on. Strawberry for example. How many white tubes do you think those fish in the marina have seen now? Plenty. How many people have fished within 200 yards of shore at the marina??? Thousands.

You can still get fish on the standard stuff, But moving around, changings jigs/baits (size, color, etc.), and presentation has been key to my late season ice fishing success. [Smile]
