Hi there! I'm a producer for [url "http://www.atyourleisure.info"]At Your Leisure[/url], Utah's Outdoor Recreation show. I am looking for someone to take one of our videographers fishing tomorrow! We would like to shoot a story somewhere south of I-70, preferably Quail Creek, Sand Hollow or Gunlock. Maybe we could join some friends or a family for a day on the lake!
Help us share with our viewers, that fishing in Utah in the Winter is enjoyable and successful! The story will air on Sunday the 4th, on ABC4 at 9am and 11pm.
With the boat show coming up next week, most of our sponsors are busy getting ready and unable to take us. But that's OK! We want to join you! maybe you have a guide business, this is a perfect promotional opportunity! Free advertising! You can't beat that. Even if you don't need any advertising and you just have a day off of work and plan on baiting a hook down south, we'd love to join you.
E-mail me at [url "mailto:drew@knite20.com"]drew@knite20.com[/url], I need to get something set ASAP so we'll have our stories for this weeks show. Questions? e-mail me. I'll respond within minutes.
to bad you did not want to hit Joe's Valley and ice some splake! that counts me out! [sly]

What a great idea! Let's advertise, advertise, advertise all we can about Utah's fisheries and wildlife. That way more and more people can join the masses that are already there : )

I like it.

The more people whe enjoy and experience the outdoors the better the chance of protecting these resources.

I would be all for that...if only it were true.

The outdoors are for all of us to enjoy. And there are a lot of good people on this site who take care of our resources, for that I am grateful. But the more crowded it becomes, the harder it is to enjoy and protect our resources. Just speaking from experience. Sometimes I hate being a realist.

[cool]Wow, you guys are ACTUALLY going to start covering fishing now? If so, I'll have to start watching it more than once or twice a year now. Good job!!

South of I-70, but preferably Quail, Sand Hollow, or Gunlock?

You're missing out on a whole lot of Utah by trying to limit it to those 3.

Fishing in Utah is enjoyable and successful -- but you need to go to the right places at the right time to make them enjoyable and successful. While those 3 you mentioned are very good fisheries, this isn't the time of year to fish them.

I would recommend going to Otter Creek, Piute, or Fish Lake -- All of which have been fishing extremely well as of late, and they are all south of I-70 too.

I'm going to flaming gorge on wensday and hitting fish lake on sunday, can't do tomorrow.

Thats right no more taking the neighbors or their kids. We want to keep these resources to ourselves. [Tongue]

Some people think that they own the public waters and don't want any company. Too bad![:/]

I agree....Come on, man! It's the boat show. It can't be ice![Wink]

If someone wants to do a show about fishing in Utah in the end of January why choose those lakes? Why not hit the hard deck? I've seen the show once, maybe twice, I think there may be a boat sponsor involved.

Hi there, Leisure dude. Welcome to BFT. Nice to have a TV producer as a member.

I hope you find someone to fish with. Kind of short notice. Get ahold of Wayne Gustofson at Wayneswords.com if you want to show the successful fishing at Lake Powell. He would love to help you promote catching lots of fish throughout the winter. He is the lead Bioligist for the UT DWR on Lake Powell. Right now Lake Powell needs people to catch and keep all the Striped Bass and Small Mouth bass they can to help balance the lakes predator/prey populations.

In that case, why the fishing cover? Trying to do a fishing show on one of those 3 lakes this time of year would be a waste.

If they want to do a boat advertisement, then send them to the Utah Boating Forum. Not the Utah Fishing Forum.

AYL -- broaden your horizons. Go hit Otter Creek and show Utah just how fantastic fishing in So. Utah can be.

This IS a fishing 'story'. At Your Leisure covers a variety of activities in the outdoor in each show, this week is highlighting Hill-Climbing Snowmobiles, charity ski events and, I was hoping for a little variety with a fishing story. Each show is structured to share a broad range of the outdoor activities.
It is true that we have boat sponsors, and ATV sponsors, and snowmobile sponsors. With out them there would be no show. They pay for their commercials just like any TV show, and we turn to them to help us find our stories.
If you read the original post, it merely pointed out that our sponsors were unavailable to take us fishing, due to getting themselves ready for the '07 Boat Show. (the only mention of the 'Boat Show' at southtowne.)
Again, I was looking for someone that wouldn't mind a tv crew hanging out with them on the lake, any lake. The only 'advertisement' mentioned in my original post was

merely saying that if a guide took us out fishing, they'd surely have a chance to share their business with our viewers.

Also, I did not mean that we were unwilling to go anywhere else. That's why I came to BFT, because I hoped that people who loved fishing, would be able to lead me to a lake where we could do a great story on fishing, not Ice-fishing (at least not this time).
The word preferably does not mean absolutely "limited to". I am a producer, not a fisherman, so there are plenty of lakes in So. Utah that I am unaware of. Those are the specific lakes mentioned to me by the Executive Producer.

Reading some of these posts, I wonder if anyone even read the original request.

Thank you to those of you who offered to help out, it is much appreciated. If I have not contacted you as of yet, I will be.
Yes, we've got our story, this time, and it will probably make the show on the 12th.
Again, thank you to those of you who understood what we were looking for, and those that believe that spending time with our families in the outdoors is far better than making memories in front of the Television fightin' over the remote.

I read your post, seems like you ask a simple question and get nothing but critisism and complaints. If I could go, I would have been happy to help you out.

well the only open water lake down that way that would be worth your time would be lake powell..

good luck to ya..

That's kind of how I felt CAD. Not a very warm welcome from a lot of regulars.
No doubt if I had a boat that wasn't winterised I'd tow it to all three of those lakes to have my "15 minutes of fame" and copies to my mother![cool]

Leisure, maybe you should just go on down and do a ramp show at all 3 places, Sand Hollow, Quail, and Gunlock and let everyone know what is up. To really make the effort to drag a boat out of hibernation and drag it 6 hours south we need to know, Is the campground open? Are the toilets? How about the showers? Drinking water?
What is the water level? How is the launching? What is the water temperature?
You don't need a boat to do a winter Southern UT segment. Check out Red Cliffs campground too while your down there, let us know how it has been doing since the flood. (Bless the soul of the camp ground host who lost his life there.) Hike up past the steps into a time forgotton and let us know how it faired in the deluge that consumed it.
Then there is Powell. Did you get ahold of Wayne? He is your man, I'm telling you if you want a segment on Powell, he's your man.

There is also Bullfrog, we stayed at the Lodge, not to expensive, breakfast and lunch in the room, (there is a fridge and Micro in each room, Plus a balcony that you could use a gas grill on) They have a killer Sat night Prime rib dinner at the restaurant. Plus a camp ground RV hook-up pads and Family units (Park style mobile homes) available.
There is car touring on the Burr trail, mountain biking anywhere you have the ability to go, fishing from the bank and docks, boat rentals, and just plain drinking in the solitude and quiet of a southern UT sunset while sipping a hot buttered beverage while sitting on the balcony of your room.
