I decided to make the trek to the Bear this morning solo as no one else wanted to join me.[Sad] I started on the sw end in about 76' of water. It was a cold morning with alot of fog and the ice was groaning loudly.
I started with some tubes that BLM gave me tipped with cisco. After 3 lookers i finally had a hit and i stuck it to him hard. I had "the mack" hooked and was bringing line in when he came unbuttoned about 15 seconds into the fight.[mad] I had anther hit shortly after that i missed. About 30 minutes later i caught a nice 18" cutt and finally got the skunk off. Over the next 3 hours i had 4 nore hits and no hook-ups. I decided to try the rockpile for some whitefish. I had a heck of a time trying to hook them. I finally got a good hit and it was a 17" cutt. Another 30 minutes of very light hits and i got a small cutt about 14" and skinny. Shortly after i saw a fish shoot up off the bottom on the vexilar and it slammed my pole! I set the hook into what i thought was a cutt or a whitie and about fell over when i pulled up a 14" 2 1/2# perch!! I could not believe my eyes! I guess i made some noise because everyone came to see what i caught. It must have been spectacular because everyone elses jaws dropped to the ice. After that i got a call from Cadresults saying he was coming over to fish by the pumphouse. I packed up and met him over there. We fished till dark with only some cutts suspended in 40' of water. Ice was anywhere from 6" to 12 or 13". A beautiful day and not bad catching.
BTW: I returned all of the cutts except one and kept the perch for a trip to the taxi.[Wink]
One more thing, I stopped to look at some swans and almost the entire flock had neck bands. Eat your hearts out swan hunters![sly]

[size 1]"I decided to make the trek to the Bear this morning solo as no one else wanted to join me.[/size][Sad]"

Brody, not true, I for one would have loved to have joined you on one of my favorite ice fishing ponds; however, once again that four letter word interferred with me being able to go.[Sad]

How big was yours?

It was around the same size I didnt even think about state record or a picture before I had the fillet knife in it!

Nice perch but the real trophy was those two neck banded swans... [cool] Wish I'd had some of them buzz me this season. Well, I guess its not much of a buzz... more of a 747 flyby but anyway....Nice job on those cutts too.. very nice fish.

That is a big perch...happens to be one of my favorite species to eat, I would have had a hard time deciding whether to taxi it or eat it!

Who is your taxidermist? Do you know what is price per inch is and does he do the skin mounts or the repros? Any pictures of his work?

Thanks, looking for a fish taxi myself.

Those swans with collars are probably trumpeters that are off limits to swan hunting. That sure is a dandy perch.
