[cool] [#ff0000]Here's a copy and paste of a report I put up on the Utah board...of a trip I made Wednesday. [/#ff0000]
[font "Verdana,Arial,Helvetica"][black][size 1][#0000ff]Hooked up with Doglover (Not Fishhound) this morning for some drillin and chillin at Rock Cliffs. We were wondering about getting the wheeler on the ice, with the recent downer reports and the warming weather. There was open water to the north of the ramp and along the old road going down into the lake (see pics). But, as long as you stay near shore on the north, until you get past open water, there is plenty of ice...12"-14".[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Temperature about 20 when we hit the ice at 8:30. Ice in the guides and holes until about 10, and then it turned tropical. 40 degrees, ditch the heavy coats and palm trees. Well, maybe no palm trees, but some sunken brush anyway.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Temperatures were hotter than the fishing. Worked hard in several spots, with DL cruising all over the outer part of Rock Cliffs and fishing along both shorelines. Very few fish on sonar and few through the holes. Of course two fine anglers such as ourselves would never get skunked, but most of what we caught were dinkeroos. We did manage a few 8-10 inch perch for the fryer and I iced a pretty 16" brown. Lost another about halfway up and had one grab a deadstick rig and run sideways around a tree. No rainbows for us. Did not see many fish cruising through at mid depth.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I caught just about all my fish on a 1/4 oz. glow fire tiger jigging spoon. I got hit on waxies, crawlers and perch meat. Caught the biggest perch and the browns on crawler tipped lures. Best fishing was at about 57 feet. Couldn't buy a hit shallower and anything deeper was just the bitty perchettes.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Glad I brought (and used) sunscreen. Beautiful day and good company. An "E-ticket" ride on the back of DL's wheeler box too. My back was fine and I even caught some fish. Oh yeah, you can beat the scenery on a nice day.[/#0000ff]

Nice report, nice bait fish and very nice Brown.

For some reason I couldn't see the palm trees nor the float tubes. It must have been the resolution of my screen.[cool]

[cool][#0000ff]My resolution is to stay inside until it thaws out.[/#0000ff]

I feel for you TD -- it has not broke 20 here for weeks...However, I have it on good authority that certain members of this forum are "unfortunate" enough to be living in climates where they don't get the pleasure of hosting ice skating events on their upper lips all winter long..california...cough...texas...cough...florida...etc -- so what is up with the lack of tubeing stories from all of you dead beats lately? Are you all shutin for "winter" ?? [Wink][Wink]

I just don't have as many tubing partners like I used to have. I ended up having to export one from Idaho.

Yes, Pokymon is coming out to enjoy some of these 45 and 50 degree waters. We will have a report to follow.

My son used to be able to snap shots of me and my fish while floating. He is busy with a commercial fishing outfit now.

I haven't tried the floating camera tripod yet. There is still too much interferrence from the Microwave oven that is mounted on my tube. It already causes lines on the DVD player and the RPGs get side tracked while trying to launch them at the friendly PWC passer bys from my tube.

We'll get you a report and pics this coming Monday for sure.[cool]

[cool][#0000ff]Pokymon? Better not let Homeland Security know about that.[/#0000ff]

tubeN2: I was thinking about getting the specs for your microwave mount so that I could adapt it for my fridge mount.

And then I need to find some way to keep my donuts from going stale....
[signature]
I end up with the fridge mount on the left side of the tube so that the microwave could go on a swivel from behind. That way it doesn't interfere with the Satelite dish nor will it leak on the coffee table.[cool]

We did a little pretend tubing today in the living room.

I have decided to attach all of the gadgets via "off the shelf" components, since if my wife sees me breaking out the powertools and drilling into PVC -- she is bound to ask why if I have time for that -- than why not her honey do's.
[signature]
It looks like you had a fun day by show of the picture.

I went through the honey do stage for quite a while and have come to an understanding.

Now we have the "Honey Don'ts" to worry about.

Honey Don't:

Take my blender on your Float tube.

Take my favorite DVDs just so you can watch movies in the middle of the lake.

Drop the Remote control in the lake again.

Be gone too long.

Come back smelling all fishy.

Come back too late.

Forget your jacket.

Forget your fins, waders .......etc.....

Forget to leave me some extra cash to go shopping......

As you can see, the Honey Don'ts are bogging me down now.[cool]

Chasing steelhead at the moment but our recent warm spot here in Oregon has me thinking about trout again.

Don't take it offensively Uncle Z. I think that Dusty T is just rabble rousing us just a bit. lol

While they are hosting ice skating events, I have thugs in my back yard trying to shoot up every piece of ice they can find. Sheeesh. Trajectories and floatation devices don't mix.[crazy]

Zonk-

I bought the best winter coat I have ever owned in Oregon one year....(I used to travel a lot) -- I love that part of the country.

I was just yankin' your chains about not tubeing if you have the chance -- I went the whole month of October only getting a chance to go twice....(after a brutal January and now February -- I am kicking myself for not taking a few more trips while I could....)

On the bright side -- March will be here before we know it...And I have a new pair of those funny fitting neoprene waders to try out for the colder waters. (I have always been a breathable guy -- but most of the cold weather float tube messages I have read always praise the neos)

[cool][#0000ff]You will be glad you got the 'prenes. There ain't no law that says you can only have one kind. It's good to have them when you need them. [/#0000ff]

[black][size 3]These guys all use neo's cause they are too chicken or don't believe you can be just as warm in breathables.[/size][/black]
[black][size 3]Or else it's the money thing LOL....nawwwwww[cool], we're talking fishing....can't put a price on that![Wink][/size][/black][/reply]

Us shortpolers are wimps.

I love my breathables but I had to cave for the Neoprenes, however -- I noticed you said that there is no law that says we can't own both, but when I tried them on the other day -- I think I may have broken a few laws getting them off. (or at the very least imagined what it may be like getting them off in public as opposed to the privacy of my living room....)

[cool][#0000ff]Then you probably violated TubeDude's first law of gear acquisition: "THOU SHALT NOT PURCHASE ANYTHING WITHOUT TRYING IT FIRST" You should have tried on the waders with a couple of layers of clothing before buying. You need plenty of space to accomodate extra clothing.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]When you buy waders you need to swallow your pride and leave your ego home. Don't be afraid to get something a size or two larger...or to go to something for "Stout" people. Better to be comfortable than fashionable.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Of course, if you add a bit of volume to your foot pockets, you will also need to resize your tubing footwear and fins. If your feet get too tight, they will become constricted and you will get numb/cold feet, no matter how many layers of warm wool you have on.[/#0000ff]

I had all of your laws in my head (I had studied up on them the night before) -- but as you guessed, I walked out the door without leaving my ego behind.

That being said - I did return them for a bigger size yesterday....Here is to hoping my feet grow about 3 sizes before March Smile

[cool][#0000ff]Just spend a lot of time fishing in a toxic and polluted lake. You never know what interesting new growths you might develop. If nothing else you will be great at night fishing...if you glow in the dark.[/#0000ff]
