Lake Seminole
Jack Wingate at Wingate's Lodge in Bainbridge sent word that the crappie bite is outstanding on the lake. Limit and near-limits have been common, and some of the fish were pretty big. Most of the action has been in 5-6 feet of water on both jigs and minnows. The lake's surface temperature is 53 degrees, and the water level is very high.
Wingate said Betty Hobbs caught a limit weighing up to 2 1/2 pounds. She caught them on live minnows in 6 feet of water. Jerry Jones caught 20 that weighed a total of 29 pounds.
The Chattahoochee River is running dingy and fast, while the Flint is muddy and Spring Creek is clearing. Lake Talquin
Brantly Morris, at Talquin's First Cast Trading Post in Quincy, said the largemouth bass are staging in 10-12 feet of water around creek mouths in preparation of spawning. He said if the temperature stays mild the fish will move up the creeks and go on beds.
Anglers are catching some of these staging fish on Texas-rigged Red Shad Culprit worms and on spinnerbaits. Some of the bass caught weighed up to 4 pounds.
