Ice Fishing has been a great new hobby for me this year, I have been out about 10 times this season and have found that my favorite local spot is East Canyon.

I invited my friend Shea and his two boys to go with me and my son Chandler. They had never been ice fishing before so I was hoping to get them into some great fishing.

We accessed the resevoir from the boat ramp. There is still pretty good acces there, as I saw snowmobiles taking off from there. We walked towards the damn and fished off the second point. We were all using green and orange ice flies with half of a cooked shrimp. I have found that it is cheaper and sometimes more effective to buy 1/8 pound of small cooked shrimp at Smiths for around $1 for bait.

We all caught our limits and countless more. What a fun day of fishing for the boys. Seth is a member of my cub scout pack so he was able to earn his fishing beltloop on this trip and will be awarded next pack meeting.

My son chandler, the little guy in pics has turned out to be such an outdoor stud. At the age of six he has experienced more than most kids. Already back packed into over 20 lakes and been hunting and fishing for three years.

Now you have a kid hooked for life. That is what we should all do. Make sure we pass it on to our kids and grandkids.
How deep was the ice? Could ATV's get on at the Marina?

Ice was atleast 12"

Snow mobile was ok, ATV might be sketchy, but I would have tried it if it was me.

[red]Why would a snowmobile be ok and a ATV be sketchy. You were the one that reminded me they float?[Tongue][/red]

My theory on that is this : (It may be wrong)

If you get the snowmobile going fast enough you will skim over water.

On a ATV, you might endo and go over the bars, I would have tried it if was me.

They float alright, but fill the crankcase full of water.
