Anyone been to Mantua? I thought it might be refrozen along the previously thawed edges. Then again, this snow may have been too much insulation.
Just drove by Hyrum. One shack by dam, and saw where some people had been out from dike. One ohter group by inlet, but there was a lot of open water west of them.

I fished mantua today. Walked on to the ice from the highway 89 side, two weeks ago the boat ramp area looked too week but there was afew fishing that area today. The ice is a combination of two conditions. Some areas have a 3" layer of crust over slush then 3" of roughten ice on top of 5" of good clear ice. Where the wind has blown the new snow off the ice condition is 3" of roughten ice on top of 5" of clear ice. The edges are in good shape but use caution conditions can change from day to day.

Was at Mantua Sunday the 4th for most of the day. On the walk in, we noticed some large open cracks off the end of the ramp that were big enough to slide through. We hadn't noticed them on the way out because the slush was frozen over them, felt pretty lucky we made it past in the morning. Oh yea -- the fishing was good I iced about a dozen perch FAT ones, and my son caught a mess of perch and 3 nice rainbows 14-18" and also fat. If you head there be very careful, the ice is about 5" but a guy gould go right into the cracks we saw.

Fished Mantua as part of my ritual attending the Mantua ward of The Church of the Seventh-Day Angler. Went on my favorite SE side where the bass and gills typically swarm under the ice. Alas, to my dissappointment no swarms. This year is nothing like last year. I can't believe how horrible it was. Two perch about 8 inches and a 1 9 inch gill. Excruciatingly boring. I guess I should have went to the west side....the reports sound positive from there. Ended up going to Hyrum and icing a few decent bows.
