Went to Pineview again this morning. A very very cold morning. Brought a newbie (Katie) today with us and with the cold we felt bad for her. We arrived around 9:30 am. Started drilling holes about 20 yards away from shore annd kept moving towards the middle. After about 1 hour of exploring, we finally found the schools. Fished in around 40-50 ft of water. Fished with kastmasters tipped with worms. Katie scored a couple nice ones right away. We all did pretty well. We left at noon because of prior engagements but it was a good day.

Pretty decent mess of perch. Glad the newbie could get into some fish.

[cool][#0000ff]Good report. Glad the rookie was able to get some reward for hanging out with wackos in the frozen arctic.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Looks like you guys went across to the south side? That is where I have done better on perch too. Might be goin' up Tuesday morning. PM me if there is anything I should know.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]I hope the warming weather leaves good access for a few more days. The edges at the narrows get sloppy quick when the warm sun shines on them.[/#0000ff]

Nice report Wildcard, how was the ice holding up? Did you need a plank to get on the ice? WH2

As of yesterday, no plank needed. Ice should be fine for the next few days. But things can be different mid week if the weather warms up like its supposed to.

Is the ice still 12" or is it thicker now, thanks for the info. WH2

on sat, it was thicker than 12 inches.

Seen you folks that morning at Pineview before you headed to the South side to fish. Sounds like you had a good time. It was cold that morning, We caught a batch of nice perch and a smallmouth bass. I was wearing a black coat and coveralls with all the patches on the coat. The bass was caught close to the hill where everyone came down to the ice in 40' depth on the bottom jigging with a rat finkie hot orange. Caught most of my perch with a rat finkie and half a wax worm. I didn't catch any crappie that day.

Well i guess thats where the smallmouth bass hang out. Last week, my friend caught one there also. Sorry, I didn't see your patches, we we so set on trying to get the newbie a fish. She supposedly lost a muskie but that can't be confirmed. Whatever it was, it was heavy and she fought it a good while before it came off. Glad you did well.

Thanks for posting your report Ono, was there any size to the bass or perch? WH2

We caught a nice mess of perch from 81/2-10", I caught 12 perch and the Bass was 13". there was nothing in the bass stomach. overallthe catching was better around 8:30-1100 with maybe 60 perch caught among 4 in our group. I wonder what the ice conditions will be at the narrows this weekend?

With the warm weather they are predicting this week, I'm hoping one of the guys that have thursday or friday off will be able to give it a try and post a report. I'm guessing we might need a plank by Saturday but as good as the ice was yesterday on TD's report I'd expect it will still be good once you get on the ice. WH2

[cool][#0000ff]I predict that it will be necessary to "plank on" at the narrows by Saturday. The access points all have "southern exposure" and tend to warm and melt faster. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]But, the north-facing side of Cemetery point should not suffer as much heat degradation for a few days.[/#0000ff]

My son has been asking about getting out one more time, so Pineview is as good as any place to try. That is a good idea about getting on the ice from the south side of the narrows. Hey Pat, do you know if there are any trails down to the ice from the south side? If I remember correctly, it is steeper on that side.

[cool][#0000ff]In the olden days there used to be some pullouts to park and get down on that side. I think they have a wall up all along there now. It is a long ways from the narrows until there is that camping area that you could drive in and park.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]In other words, I doubt you could find a place to park, and even if you could, it is almost straight down to the water in most places. Probably too dangerous to try it. I have drilled and fished along quite a bit of the south side and I have not seen many places I would try to get down...and back up.[/#0000ff]
