That's right guys and gals, ol' Bryan jumped on the wire job and got it done in under 6 hours. That's pretty impressive considering the cobbled up mess I had to work with. All in all, it wasn't bad at all. LOL Check out the high lights:

Isn't that just a mess! That's only part of it.

[Image: gforum.cgi?do=post_attachment;postatt_id=22166;]

Remember all the little blue double splices, along with all the extra wire hanging around; littery. LOL

[Image: gforum.cgi?do=post_attachment;postatt_id=22167;]

I'm halfway home by this point. I've got most of the old stuff cut out; which was a job. It really wasn't that bad tracing down what wires did what, once I got started getting jiggy wit' the snippers.

This is the brand electricians grease I used. It's suppose to be one of the best on the market. I coated every single connection with it.

This is a near finished product. Scroll back up and look at the difference. Before, the box wasn't even mounted to the console. There were like 40 things going to it that didn't even work. [unimpressed]

This is a finished product on the ground bus for the accessories. It was very easy to work with and as you can see, made installation easy and organized. This little fella runs right around 20 dollars at boatersworld.com

[Image: gforum.cgi?do=post_attachment;postatt_id=22172;]

Finished product. What a difference a few hours makes!

[Image: gforum.cgi?do=post_attachment;postatt_id=22173;]

This opened up alot of floor space. Of course, I wiped it up after I was done. It was pretty dirty as you can see. [Wink]

[Image: gforum.cgi?do=post_attachment;postatt_id=22165;]

This is the old, out of date switch panel that was on the boat. And like they say, "out with the old................"

[Image: gforum.cgi?do=post_attachment;postatt_id=22174;]

"and in with the new." This is the new 6 gand lighted panel I installed by Paneltronics. It's 100% waterproof and it was pre rigged. It runs right around 90 bucks.

As I said before, not too bad. The panel, bus, and all other materials (wire, connectors, grease, leads, wire ties) all run me about 150.00 for the complete install. All of which is priceless for the peace of mind i'll have knowing that everything is wired properly to a high quality panel. [cool]

Sweet deal, just a tip that battery looked a little dirty too, you should clean it off and install a battery box. It's worth it to keep the battery clean and corrosion free. That is quite the before and after.[Smile]

That's a good idea Joe, It never really crossed my mind. Thanks for the tip. They're cheap anyhow, so it would be silly not to add one while i've got it open. [cool]

great wiring job!

Thanks for the kind words wormshocker! Also, welcome to bigfishtackle.com!!!

I've been planning the rewireing job for the past few weeks, looking for ideas and thoughts before I jumped on it. It was my first boat rewireing, and it turned out very good. These guys offered plenty of great tips which I applied to the boat in the process. I just couldn't believe all the scrap that was under the dash. it was litterly a grocery bag full of crap that either wasn't being used at all or lines with 4 or 5 splices in them. After looking back, I can't believe it worked and I can't believe I didn't have a fire. LOL, i'm just glad it's over with. That was my major project I had to get done. Now, all that's left is reorganizing my tackle box, cleaning a couple more reels, and making some rigs.

Thanks for the help guys!

Hey Tom, i'm game. Bring it on down to SC, i'll buy the frosty beverages. I've still got plenty of wire grease left. [Wink] Infact, i've still got alot of new wire left over, along with wire connectors and all. I bought alot of extras so I wouldn't have to leave to go get stuff. I planned ahead precisely enough to never have to leave the boat before completeing the job.

If you've got to rewire the entire boat, like bilge pumps, running lights, etc...... That's a major job. You've got to pull up the entire deck to get to the raw base of the boat. That would suck way worse than what I did. LOL [unsure] You'd be better off to break down and just get yourself a new boat. 200 a month and you're riding in a 30 G boat. [cool] Besides, if it's been capsized, it's already a bad luck hull. It's been cursed by the ocean and wasn't meant to be put back in working order. [Wink]

Wait a minute, T4M... You're gonna rewire his boat AND supply the libations?? Wanna rebuild my carburetor? [cool] lol
[signature]
LOL, I don't mind buying the first set of drinks. Hell, I like working on stuff like that. Cars, boats, etc.......

What kind of carborator is it? Automotive or marine? They usually aren't too bad. Sure, we'll sit down at the kitchen table and get "r" done. LOL [cool] I'll warn you ahead of time, i've been on a captain and coke run here lately when I get the chance, unless you like Dos Equis or Corona with a lime.[Tongue]
[signature]
Lol! I can dig Captain and Coke. When it comes to beer, I aint too picky as long as it's cold. [Wink]

I love working on that stuff too, especially cars. In fact I probably would have taken care of the carburetor yesterday, but I was helping a friend work on her car.

It's a marine carb out of an old Merc. I've already taken it apart and it is sitting in a bucket of carberetor cleaner at the house just waiting for me to put it back together, hopefully I'll be able to do it tonight.

Well look at you. Taking over when Don retires? Knowing you it will get done for almost nothing. [Smile] The yankee way. LOL
