Went to Chicken Creek East today amd the fishing was as cold as the below zero temp. My Armada said it was -17 but I don't know how accurate it is.

We fished from 8:30 to 1:00 without a bite and only saw one group catch 2 fish. We only moved twice because it was such a pain, but no one really seemed to be doing any good, so what was the point. About one we grilled up some hot dogs and headed home as the wind kicked up. From the day some people had at Jordanelle, sounds like I should not have driven past it! I would have rather fryed up some perch!

The snow was about 1 foot deep and very soft. Below the snow there is about 4 inches of wet slush. It was hard walking and the only machine that would be able to get around right now would be a snowmobile.

Sounds like a brutal day of fishing. Too bad it was so stinkin' slow for ya.

We took the 4-wheeler, put in at the marina, and found similar conditions. The going was tough on that thing. We finally abandoned it, walked (fumbled, bumbled, stumbled) another 100 yards or so and finally collapsed to fish there. DIDN'T BRING THE SNOWSHOES!!! Bad move ...
My truck showed -24 at 7:30am, and a balmy +22 at 2:00. That's 46-degree increase, huh?
And the way we looked at it, that -24 was 56-below freezing! That's dang cold! Just goes to show how well a layer of snow can insulate from super cold temps; kept that slush alive. That's what made the going so tough, that stuff sucking at your boots when walking. SHOULD HAVE BROUGHT THE SNOWSHOES!!!
By the way - fishing was slow for us. Although we saw good numbers, serious takers were difficult to come by. We fished hard, too.

I also fished the marina on sat. A LOT OF WORK!!!! The deep snow and slush are miserable! I wore snowshoes and it was still a problem. My sled was way too heavy and kept tipping over. If you broke through the powder even one time with the snowshoes on then they got wet and then the powder stuck to them and pretty soon each snowshoe weighed 20 pounds. It was an experience for sure. -20 when we arrived at 7 am and +20 when we left at 1:30. Lots of sunshine and only a little w.... We landed 11 fish of which 8 of them were caught in the first hour when there was plenty of fish on the finder. After that we had fish on the finder often but very few takers. The kids had fun except for wet feet. Saw lots of 4 wheelers stuck and even a few older sleds with double riders getting stuck as well. I hope that slush freezes soon! But if -20 can't freeze it then what will? We need the snow really bad up there so I was glad to see it, just not glad to walk in it!

Yeah, that's very true. The water is the important thing. I've been excited to see how short the ramp is right now.
We were talking yesterday -- we need a helicopter to drop us off, and then come back when use a sat phone to call them in. One of those Helitours choppers from Park City landed up there last weekend; gave us the idea.

[cool][#0000ff]We had a ski plane land on the ice at Jordanelle not too far from the festivities yesterday. Thought it was part of the half time entertainment but he kept on up to the other end of the lake.[/#0000ff]

Our plan (cousin and I) was to hit our secret spot in Mudcreek before daylight...found the road into Mudcreek not plowed, so we went to the marina. Walked out about 100 yards, decided we would rather not catch fish than walk any further. So we set up the ice shack (lit the heater FIRST to keep our hands warm...it was COOOOLD!) and caught one 17 incher right off the bat. And then we proceeded to not catch or even SEE fish for the next 3 hours. Well, since I caught the only fish, cousin didn't want to be skunked so we stopped at the pumphouse and fished for 1 hour. He caught a white bass (10 incher) and I caught nothing. At least we didn't get skunked. I think I'm done ice fishing for the season.

Glad to hear you were able to catch some fish.

I thought you learned that when we went up to Willard for the blizzard. Ohh well it was the fish lust I guess.

Matty,

One of these day's it'll be MY turn to lure you into doing something stupid! [Wink] Hmmmm... how about we kick out on Utah Lake one of these days. And when the wind kicks up, I'll motor away from ya on electric power while you kick like a fool to get back in!!!!

That'd be a gasssss!!!! <slapping knee> [sly]
