I found this formula in a magazine the other day. It tells you how to figure out the kinetic energy of your arrow.

Speed x Speed x Weight/ 450240 = Ftlbs of energy

Example my 410 gr arrow at 280 fps = 71.39 Ftlb of energy. Now keep in mind that this energy will change as your arrow slows down. So, this would be "at the muzzle" energy.
Just something to think about when you consider the long range- beyond 50 yard shots! Your arrow WILL NOT be going the same speed thus your energy will be significantly less.
