Went out on Saturday to try for some bass...

First went to Black Canyon dam, don't bother, its very muddy and high in the river as well as the res. The water is spilling over the top creating a very beautiful but LOUD waterfall.

Next went to Sawyer Pond in Emmett. Got one bite when we first got there (about 9:30a), but then not another nibble for almost 2 hours from a float tube. Lots of people fishing, only saw 1 guy catch 1 fish. Water was about 52 degrees

Next went to Caldwell Pond, I caught a couple nice bass in a matter of about an hour. One was a baby, one was 12", the other was 15". My buddy had one on but his line broke. Spinners seemed to be working for me. Water was 56 degrees.

Take care!

Thanks for the report, I plan on hitting up Sawyers and Black Canyon next week. I post on this thread when I get done.

Went back to Caldwell pond this morning to try out my new Outcast Fishcat 4 floattube. love the tube but I had to share this story...

I was out in the center of the pond (by the large pole) and I casted out a chunky bass spinner. I thought I had hooked into one of the sunken bushes but when I gave it a yank to get loose, I realized I had a BIG bass on. I fought it for a minute or 2, I had never felt a bass this size at the end of my line. Right before I got it to the surface, it lunged down with incredible power, my pole literally bent in half and my 10lb test line snapped. The fish HAD to have been 5 or 6 pounds (or more, I have never caught a 5lb bass so I don't know how it feels), I couldn't believe it! The picture that I attached with my initial post on this thread shows the 3lb that I caught from the same pond, that fish fought like a minnow compared to this.

IT was my own fault because my drag was set to tight, however, I didn't realize that fish that big wer in that pond. I will be ready next time. IF you catch my fish, you will know it cause there is a $6.00 lure stuck in his mouth, LOL. I hope he is ok, Im sure he will be able to shake it out, I feel terrible.

Thanx for letting me tell you about the one that got away!

Great report! It's still a blast to get out even if the fish get away. We all need a few storys to tell anyways. I am fairly new to the area and am itching to do some fishing with the warm weather we've been having. How do you get to Caldwell Pond? Any info would be very helpful.
Thanks!

[cool]Nice looking bass!

Ahh I hate it when the big one gets away[pirate]! It just makes you go fishing more so you can catch him again![cool]

What lure did you mean by a spinner? Just one of those spinners with a single hook at the end or were you talking about a spinnerbait?

Also I'm very Jelious that you have open water! It will be a couple weeks I think before we get the ice off here.

To get to Caldwell Rotary pond, take Exit 27 (the exit between the 10th Ave & Notus exits),, go south on Centennial (toward town) bout 1/4 mile, you will see a park on the right, turn in there, follow that road on back, you will see the pond.
Good Luck!

It was a standard bass spinner, "A" frame with a willow blade on one side and a single hook & skirt on the other side. I use a trailer hook attached to the main hook on all my spinners. I was watching a pro bass tv show and i remember one of the pros saying "The only time I use a trailer hook on a spinner,, is when i want to catch fish". That comment made me decide to trailer hook all my spinners.

Hope this helps,
Rob

Went to Sawyers Pond this morning. Very windy and cold, brrrr, my hands went numb. Tried for bass with no luck, I was using willow/colorado spinners and texas rigged plastics. Met a nice gentleman who was hooking trout on spinners. Told him about BFT, and I hope to see him on board.

I went back to Sawyers Pond this morning and the weather was much warmer and calmer. I fished for 2 hours and only used a chartuese spinnerbait and caught one largemouth. I didn't weigh it, but if it helps my shoe is 12" long, so I would think the fish is at least 20"+. Enjoy

And a picture of me and the fish. I'm the one with the hat.

That was worth the trip[cool]

That is a really nice LMB. Big largemouths like that are hard to come by in Idaho. Thanks for sharing the pictures.

Wow, nice bass. Bass like that are hard to come by in Idaho. I caught one that was 21 1/2" a few years ago. Some guy gave me a guilt trip and I released it. I wish I would have got it mounted because they drained Condie the next year.

NICE ONE EZOP!! I'll bet she didn't come quietly. Looks like a 6 pounder. Were u in a boat or on the bank? I have been finding them very shallow lately.

I was fishing from the bank and this was caught on a long cast down the shore. It probably hit about 3 feet from the bank and instantly buried itself in the weeds. After getting it out it charged me and I thought I lost it. I could only real so fast and then it went back into the weeds again. Finally I freed it and she was tired, just like me.

Where you fishing on the Caldwell pond? I went yesterday and was there for an hour and a half and caught nothing.

Welcome to the forum. The post you replied to is about 8 years old. I wouldn't expect an overwhelming response at this point. [Smile]
