So, I just wanna say that I take back all those times I called trout "Slimers", because I caught a super slimer.... Got it just out from Buckboard on Sat. at 11:40 AM in 80ft of water, just off the bottom. Gotta say, this thing is the nastiest fish I've ever touched!!

Yuck, that is almost as bad as having to look at a Bass or Walleye...

Are you sure you did not dump cooking oil or baby oil on that bottom feeder. Man I can see the slime on your hands in the pic. Let us know ho it eats, they are suppose to be pretty tasty.

They make look gross and slimy, but I do believe that they are the best tasting fish out there...burbot..yum

A friend from work ateve??, gave me some burbot from montana and i cooked it like catfish. MMGOOOOOD!!! Ugly but tasty.[cool]

I delivered the fish to a friend (Bass_Turd), and he said he would be frying him up this week some time. So, I'm sure Mr. Turd will chime in and let us know how tasty there are. Slimy doesn't even cut it, after you handle the fish and you spread you fingers apart, it looks like you've got webbed hands![cool] I would prefer to have cooking oil or baby oil on my hands instead of that SLIME!

I have heard they are tastey, and I am willing to try anything once. I have this theory that the uglier the fish the better they taste, just look at catfish and walleye. So that little devil has got to be better than bacon grease [angelic], because that is one ugly fishy..............

No lake trout for me, but a couple of buddies got some 3 pounders. The ice is getting very rotten but was still about 15-17in. thick. It wont take long now. The Big Bend area just south of us had open water.

I got wondering just how big these critters might get so I did a little Google research and here are some very interesting quotes from:

https://www.state.me.us/...mentplans/burbot.pdf

"Canadian age and groth studies indicate that burbot over 27 inches in lenght generally weigh more than 4 pounds. Most of these larger fish are at least 10 year olds. Burbot as old as 16 years have been observed in Canada, though the maximum age for the species probably ranges between 10 and 15 years."

"The largest burbot on record for North America was taken in 1870 in Alaska and weighed 60 pounds. Great Slave Lake produced the largest burbot known in Canada. It was 38.3 inches long and weighed 18.5 lbs. In Europe the species has been reported to grow to a length of 46 inches and to a weight of 75 pounds."[#002850][/#002850]

Nice slimer . Just think about it . These fish will grow to about 40" in length and have been known to eat fish over 20" and still be hungry . Sites that I have read say it takes 4 years for a burbot to reach 18" but I think that is bull . I just hope the big macks will take a liken to them because they are spawning now and there will be a lot more of them soon .

Can you imagine how much slime would be on a 40in Burbot?? Scary.... very scary....[Wink]
