Do any of you southern guys fish Panguitch lake regularly? I have been invited on a fishing trip at the end of April and I was wondering what kind of fish to expect and what lures to use. We are taking a boat so we will be trolling unless the weather is too bad.

Thanks for any info.

P.S. How do you get there? I'll be coming from N.Ogden area.

I'm in N. Utah, too (well, Orem), but we have gone to Panguitch Lake in the sumnmer for a few days several years. We get there by taking I-15 south to highway 20 (about exit 95), then take 20 east over to highway 89, then south about 10 miles to Panguitch, then 18 miles west on highway 143 up to the lake. I have caught rainbows and cutthroats, and some chubs. I seem to remember catching a brown or two, but I can't remember if they're in the lake or not. Southern guys?

They poisoned the lake last spring I think to get rid of the chubs. They replanted with planters and some nice size rainbows I believe not sure if they stocked browns or not. The reports have been good and I believe there is now a limit on your catch I think 4 fish over 22 or under 15

The directions to get to Panguitch Lake were exact. After they poisoned the lake last spring, they planted rainbows, tiger trout, and cutts. The tigers were just fingerlings so don't get to excited to catch any of those. The majority of the rainbows right now are about 14-17 inches long but they did plant some bigger brood stock fish. Last fall I actually caught several really big cutts and bows. The biggest was about 23 inches and three to four pounds (estimate). There is the slot limit mentioned above, but the fishing has been pretty good. Traditionally, flat fish or needle fish work great trolling, as does pop gear with a worm. Alot of people like to vertically jig for big cutthroats on the north side of the lake by the rocks with tubes. Most people that fish from the shore use powerbait or nightcrawlers. If you want to catch some browns, try the creek below the lake, it produces some pretty good brown trout.
