[cool][font "Arial"][size 2]We fished with the Carl Graham party Monday, 8 miles off Bonita Beach, with live shrimp. We caught 30 sheepshead to 20 inches, releasing all the large females, and keeping ten. We also got two limits of mangrove snapper and keeper-sized triggerfish. Tuesday, the Dick Leonard party fished with us, 9 miles west of Bonita Beach. Catches were similar to the day before, with sheepshead to 18 inches, keeper mangrove snapper, porkfish & triggerfish. The Bill Schraeder party fished Wednesday with us, going after snapper 8 miles off Bonita Beach. We caught six limits of them, along with some keeper sheepshead and triggerfish. We fished with Dave Schmidt and Mike Strohmier Thursday in 3-4 foot seas, even though the prediction was for 1-2 feet. Using live shrimp, at the floating docks behind Ft. Myers Beach, we caught keeper mangrove snapper, and big sheepshead to 20 inches. We had even a bigger sheepshead on, when a goliath grouper, estimated at 200 + pounds, ate it, one inch under the surface—Scared us to death! ! We tried to get out with the Leonard White party Friday, with NOAA calling for 1-2 foot seas and 10 knot winds…But, as soon as we headed out Wiggins, and took a few waves over the bow, we knew we were facing 4 foot seas and 15-20 knot winds. We returned to the dock, opting to try again on a day with better conditions. The Jack Smith party fished 6 miles off Naples Beach with us, with live shrimp. We caught seven sheepshead to 18 inches, fifteen mangrove snapper to 16 inches, and released triggerfish, a small hogfish, grunts & porkfish. The blue runners are in, and we spotted a few Spanish mackerels and one king. There are small schools of bait showing up too, so we expect the king mackerel to be around before long. Sunday, Gary Ade and friend, Bill fished 8 miles off Bonita Beach with us, and caught nice Spanish mackerel to 24 inches, keeper sheepshead & mangrove snapper, and released gag grouper shorts.
