[cool][#0000ff]Well, it looks like Mama Nature is pitchin' a hissy fit and has blessed us with some retro winter stuff. Booooo, hisssss![/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Okay, let's have some fun. Let's have a contest. Not one of those funky "higher, bigger, faster, more" things. Let's have a contest to see who can come up with some GOOD contests. We will be having more throughout the year and us mods sometimes get brainlock and run out of ideas.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]This is semi serious. We really are looking for useable ideas. So, get creative...but wacko is okay too. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Format should be (1.) name for contest (2) SIMPLE rules (3) types of prizes you would like to see. Oh yeah, be reasonable with the last one. No all-expense trips to Cabo San Lucas. Maybe to Lincoln Beach.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Top four best entries on the contest contest will get one each of the new hats from BFT. I already have them in hand, so anybody who wins one can pick it up or arrange a handoff from someone going north or south. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Here's a pic of the new hats. Classy. All white with a blue border around the bill.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Oh yeah, I also got some more BFT patches and stickers, so all entrants qualify to get at least a patch and a couple of stickers.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Contest begins today and runs until next Monday, April 2. [/#0000ff]

1. Name - Get Skunked
2. Rules - Don't catch any fish for the longest amount of fishing hours
3. Prizes - Top 3 - Guided trip by BFT pro to any Utah Lake to break the streak

Seriously, maybe this one:

1. Name - Most Verstaile Fisherman
2. Rules - Catch the most species of fish, using the most different techniques, in the most bodies of water during a two week period.
A maximum of 3 different lakes.
Species of fish x length of largest fish of each species x different techniques used to land the fish x different lakes caught fish at (max of three) = total score.
3. Top prize gets a small gift certificate to sportsmans and can take me out fishing.[Wink]. Next two top get catfish feast from tubedude.[cool]
4-10 get a cool BFT hat.

1) After School (Fish) Spring Hook Up
2) Have adults bring kids out (15 and under) to different local waters for a 2 hour mini fishing tournaments. Objective is to share a boat seat to the non-boat parent & kid and to teach them fishing techniques, safe boating, good sportsmanship and meet other BFT'ers.
3) Give the kids some hats, lures, tackle boxes, etc.

We could start off with Deer Creek, Lake X, Pineview, Utah Lake, etc. The idea is to have a week day after school (stays light until 7:30) when the boating pressure is less and the kids get an outing that would excite them and teach them the right way to have fun.

Even if you have a very small turn out you could have fun with 2 boats or more. By having it at different waters you could spread the fun and not have to drive 100 miles to participate.

1. Hunting for fish -

2. We should target specific fish on specific lakes and specific sizes so you would have to catch a 13" smallmouth at jordanelle and then a 12" brown on the provo and a 16" carp at utah lake etc. etc.

3. I like the green river trip idea for the winner and the next four closest would get hats and sweatshirts.. I also think some of TD's lures should be in the prize pot

I think this is just what is needed.

1) Name: Spring Fishing Tournament

2) Rules: From now until the 1st day of summer (June 21), Catch as many species of fish as possible, treat it like the ice fishing tournament where a picture is needed with the length and total inches until June 21st wins. We could have a minimal $$ entry fee and it lets the ultimate fisherman that knows how to catch all kinds of fish have the best chance of winning. We could make a list up front of all fish that will be included.

3) Prize(s): The entry fee money could be used to sponser a BFT guided trip to the persons place of choice, that could include lodging, boat for that trip.

I also have another idea

1) Name: Rockin River/Lake contest

2) Rules: We will designate 6 rivers and 6 lakes as the areas to fish.
This contest is to see who can catch the most different species of fish from these 12 waters. We can set an end date when the time comes if this one is chosen. If there is a tie between any fisher man/women, then total inches or pounds, etc would be the winner.

3) Prizes: $200 gift certificate from Cabelas or Sportsmans Warehouse

[#ff4040]1. Name= "The Crap Contest"[cool][/#ff4040]
[#ff4040][/#ff4040]
[#ff4040]2. Objective is to see who can get the biggest carp out of Utah Lake by any means necessary (legally of course). Bow fishing, Regular fishing, or even Fin feeding those buggers...doesn't matter.[/#ff4040]
[#ff4040][/#ff4040]
[#ff4040]3. Winner gets some nice BFT apparel (shirts, hats, hoodies, beanies, stuff like that). Second can get some of TD's jigs or something like that (if that's okay with you Pat?). And third can get the carpinski's[laugh] just kidding...I'm sure we could work out the prizes.[/#ff4040]

Most traveled fisherman.

Do a contest where the person has pics of themselves at the lake catching fish. Whoever visits the most lakes, but you have to catch a fish from that lake, any species, for it to count.

Set a cutoff date for August, or sometime like that.

Winner - Plaque or printed award, Gift certificate to some sporting goods store and a BF hat.

next 2 - hat and a T-shirt

This would make it a challenge for us to try new lakes instead of the same ones we all like the most.

Let me preface my idea for a great contest by saying that, in my opinion, what makes BFT great are all the detailed reports of wonderful fishing adventures posted by our members. When I click on a report offered by a BFTer and see that he or she has taken the time to list a lot of interesting details, noting times and temps and mentioning lures, baits, and techniques used--it makes me very grateful for that someone who has taken so much time to share his or her experience. It often teaches me and gets me excited to hit the water.

With that in mind, here is my idea for a great contest:

Name of contest: Best Report

Simple rules: The contest will run for a two- or three-week period, spanning at least two, or possibly three, full weekends. During the running of the contest, each contestant is allowed to submit only one report of only one fishing outing. It should be his or her very best work. It should be well-written; have a great beginning, middle, and ending; and should be highly imaginative and creative. Things like spelling, grammar, and punctuation SHOULD NOT be the main focus. It should be most about providing a very entertaining and creative work for fellow BFTers to read and enjoy. Also, the destination shouldn't be all that important either, because a day spent at a community pond with kids in tow can be just as fun as a striper-fest at Lake Powell with a bunch of buddies.

Contestants should keep very detailed notes (or at least possess a good memory) of their fishing experience for the particular fishing outing he or she wishes to report on. Appreciated details in the report may include: what time the angler arose in the morning; what fishing, personal comfort, and protective gear was brought along for the trip; the type of food and beverages consumed; the condition of the water and weather upon arrival and throughout the day at the fishing destination; what lures and/or baits were used and the methods and techniques used to fish them; the species, sizes, and numbers of fish caught; how long the angler remained and fished on the water; and MOST IMPORTANTLY the amount and type of fun, enjoyment, and pleasure the angler derived during his or her trip. Again, personal reflection and a retelling of how wonderful the trip was with family and friends, how beautiful the scenery was, and how much the adventure brought enjoyment are certainly the most important ingredients. Finally, pictures of the event are always a huge bonus, but should not be requried.

After the two-week period is complete, a list of each of the individual reports should be provided and BFT members should be allowed to vote on their favorite report.

I envision a great post filled with dozens of highly detailed and creative reports where it is evident that the posters have put a lot of thought into retelling their adventure the best they knew how. The end result should be much better than any ol' copy of Field & Stream around.

Types of prizes: I'm a big fan of gift certificates to Cabela's or Sportsman's Warehouse.

Well, there it is. (Sorry, Pat, that my rules are so long, but in theory I believe they're very simple to understand.)

I have yet another idea

1) Name: Skills Challenge

2) Rules: Have a skills challenge from shore at a local lake (Utah lake, etc) Were we will have different challenges to participate in. We would have point circles anchored in different locations for a casting competition with different lures. The rod, reel and lures would be supplied and you would get 2 practice casts that do not count to get a feel for the setup. Each participant would get 6 chances with each different type of lure, etc. Total points win. Another challenge would be a float tube race for tubers and a pontoon race for the tooners. We could even hold a skills casting competition from the tubes/toons as well. There are probably a few other skills challenges we could come up with. It would be a fun for all who joined in. Minimal entry fee would cover:

3) Prizes: Barbecue lunch for everyone involved and a 1st, 2nd and a 3rd place prize of different fishing items adn BFT merchandise.
[signature]
1 and 2. Have a contest to see who can catch the most species of fish in Utah in a specified time period. (game and non game species) Tie breakers would be larger size of the fish entered, but the first criteria would be the number of different species caught.

3. Some swag from the BFT store should suffice.

For all my posts, we could get rid of the entry fees then and somehow come up with what TD has mentioned. I would love to volunteer and do whatever.

Biggest brown for the month of April. That could get really interesting. There are large browns in every part of the state so it in no way caters to any one group of people. Let's see the fish porn!

howz about something obscure. oldest or most unique fishing equiptment, oddest useable gear etc etc
I'm sure we have had some stuff handed down from our parents that either was never used because of its oddities
plus some of the old stuff is a good conversation piece.

Trash Tourney! (Kids love this one)

All fishers start out with a pocket knife. That's it. You have to find any hook, sinker or lure you will be using. Each contestant is allowed to have 1 rod & Reel combo and a large trash bag.

Prizes for 1st fish, biggest fish, most fish and most trash.
Prizes of hats, shirts, flags a few lures or an all expence paid overnite at the Tremonton Motor Lodge with Continental Breakfast. Cultural Center of the Universe.

This would be good to do at the community fisheries to show the public who we are and what we do. Holmes Creek comes to mind.

lets have a jordon river contest. The most fish caught , biggest fish , toal pounds of fish caught, the most species caught, the biggest carp , biggest cat fish , biggest eye , biggest white bass , you get the drift of the scope of the contest. Run the contest riverton to rose park .Nothing fancy about a jordon river contest , maybe that would get the state fish people off of their aaaaaaaaaaaaa , and do something with the river

I really enjoy your posts with all the pictures and I think you could have a contest with photos of the most spectacular picture of a sunrise or sunset on your favorite water. I have certainly enjoyed some of yours.
A second contest would be a unique specimen for a species. There was an odd colored rainbow in a post the other day. That would be a good example. Since this is mostly for fun prizes like hat or t shirts would be fine. gshorthair
