I have a 8' pontoon with a minnkota endura 30 trolling motor for it. I am looking for a way to mount my motor to my toon. Any suggestions? The toon is a classic accessories I think and I havent seen many accessoried for them. I bought it 5 years ago.

[cool][#0000ff]C'mon over to [url "http://www.bigfishtackle.com/cgi-bin/gforum/gforum.cgi?forum=81;"]THE TUBING & TOONING BOARD[/url]. In addition to the main board, there is a picture board with lots of pics and suggestions.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]If your toon does not come with a motor mount, you will have to rig one, using the available frame. Take a picture of your setup and post it over on the tubing board and we should be able to help ya.[/#0000ff]

I will do that. Thanks TD!

do you want the motor in the front or the back? [cool]

If you're, well cheap like me, and have access to a tig or an orbital welder you can build your own out of stainless tube. I built mine like the one I got from Sportsmans (then took it back for my 90$). I sold my mount for $30 because I refuse to license my toon. I got all the materials from work, welded and bent the tube while getting paid! I love my job! Anybody that can weld can build one cheaper than a store bought one.

TD,
I followed your link but could not find the picture link. Could you be more specific as how to find the pics. My toon is getting a motor this year too.

come on I remember you swinging a 16# sledge at a boiler only a year ago. your trying to tell me that you enjoyed that?

Hey Jeff, that part of the job I didn't enjoy. High purity stainless on the other hand...I'm a gravy train with biscuit wheels. Just soakin' up the easy money [Wink].

Welcome to the board! This site is awesome.

Hey Proline I just got motor mount for my Creek Company ODC from cabelas. And from the looks of it all it is a square piece of aluminum diamond plate with and rectangular box welded to back of it. I uses simple U bolts to attach it to the back of my pontoon. If you woould like I can send you pics and dimensions of it Im sure with the little bit of elbow grease you could make your own for quater of the price I paid. (79.99 + tax)[Sad]

[black][size 3]We have put a motor on every floating devise we have ever had from the Caddis Doughnut to a SFC to a 6' Bucks bag Alpine Pontoon to the now 11 1/2' CC pontoon.[/size][/black]
[black][size 3]With the tubes we bought the Float Power (a small tube with a battery box and a chunk of wood for the motor) straps to the back of you tube (any tube)[/size][/black]
[black][size 3]As far as pontoons, they all have some kind of a rear deck so, aluminum and wood is all you need to keep it light.[/size][/black]
[black][size 3]I do highly recommend, putting the motor on the back, turning the head 180 so that the handle is facing the same direction as the prop.[/size][/black]
[black][size 3]Several reasons for this such as, it is out of your way while fishing, pontoon do not steer great going forward, they are not ment to. You will have all your power pulling you which will be easier on the battery, but you will be able to go forward short distance if you need to.[/size][/black]
[black][size 3]You will need flippers to steer.[/size][/black]
[black][size 3]Equipment, you need a DEEP CYCLE battery (bigger the better) cause that is the only one that is going to take the constant recharging. and as far as Motor, Minn Kota, or what ever, you only need 30 lbs thrust, but 36 is max.[/size][/black]
[black][size 3]Gas motor can be done, but I wouldn't even think about it on an 8' pontoon, plus they can be dangerous. There is no idle on the smaller ones so it is on or off. Now try to pull start it out on the water and then spin it around. Not to mention they really go too fast even on the lowest setting.[/size][/black]
[size 3]We have help several set theirs up, if you have any questions, just pm.[/size]

Where do you register pontoon with motor.
[signature]
[cool][#0000ff]UDOT in Utah. Motor vehicle departments in most states.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Be prepared for a lot of ignorance about how to register it. They don't get many and every time it is a hassle getting them educated...and keeping from paying the same rate as someone with a yacht.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Bring your receipts or other documentation on how much you paid for your toon and your motor. That is usually what they go by. It will be higher the first year and then just a smaller amount each year after...just like a car.[/#0000ff]
