A friend of mine just returned from a stealhead trip and he is an avid catch and release kind of guy. During his trip he caught a couple of fish that even he would like to have on the wall above the fireplace. Fortunately for him he took lots of pictures and measurements and I was wondering if any of you knew of anyone around Utah or anywhere else that made nice replica mounts. Name, Phone #, or website would be appreciated.
Thanks

Pretty reasonable prices as well.

Try this guy, he did a great job on a 9+ lb cut I caught at the Berry a couple years ago-

Nice macks on that other post by the way. Post 'em if you got 'em. Ignore all that other crap, the guys who have put in their time at FG know where you were fishing from the pictures. That's one lake you have to spend a lot of time at to get figured out, or have a really good teacher.

A buddy of mine has a gorgeous 29 lb. steelhead done by Tony Cannova in Denver (303-744-0147) and I know he does replicas. His fish are the most beautiful and most lifelike I have ever seen.

As Don in Denver said, Tony Cannova is the best in the west. Period.
In SLC, Jerry Chivers is pretty good too, though I haven't seen any of his steelhead. He's done a ton of nice lake trout though, and I've seen some nice pike he's done as well. I don't have Chivers' number with me, but he shouldn't be hard to find in SLC.

Dan Johnson Wilderness Taxidermy in Syracuse. He is in the phone book. I saw him do some some rep mounts that looked like they just came out of the water.

I just posted a picture of a friend of mine's work on this site of the new Idaho State record walleye he just completed. His name is Dan Johnson of Wilderness Taxidermy. He is located in Syracuse Utah and does replicas and skin mounts both. He has done alot of big Macks from the Gorge as well as Musky from Pine View. [cool]

Thanks everyone for the info. I will pass it along to my friend and also keep it for myself. I am sure that one of these places will suit my friends needs, they all sound like they do good work. Once again thanks and good fishin.

you got any pics of your mount?

I don't have any pictures of his work. But, I have seen a good number of his mounts. You can look at some of his work if you stop in at the DWR's Southern Region offices.
You'll also see some of Steve Taylor's (Cedar City) work in there as well. I could be wrong, but I believe that the Central Region may have something of Steve's as well.
Between the two of them, you won't find anyone better to do a mount (real, or replica) of fish from out here in the west. Brook Trout, Tiger Musky, Splake, whatever -- there aren't better taxidermists around.
Proof? Well, when you don't have to advertise or put up a website, but you're still busy -- you must be pretty good!

I have a few done by Jerry Chivers in SLC. He does a fabulous job. I have seen several of his mounts including steelhead, salmon, pike, many salt water fish and macs. You can go to his shop and check them out. I first saw his mounts at Sportsmans Warehouse on 7200 South in Salt Lake. His number is (801) 466-1944. Good luck.
