Hello all,
I am new to Bigfish. I am interested in the community fishing scene as between commuting to work and working, about 11 hours of my day is wasted each day. I would like to make the little bit of time I have available to fish productive.

(also, I do not have a boat, or a tube so I am pretty much stuck fishing from the bank.)

I live in Salt Lake and work in Payson. Other than the overcrowded norms, (Willow Park, Midas and Kidney, etc.) Is there a good place you would recommend? I have tried the Jordan River with no success other than the tree fish and shopping cart fish, etc.

I know I pass Utah lake during my commute, but I have never been able to catch anything there. Maybe, that is because I do not know where to go on that lake. I have mostly been fishing there around the marinas.

Could someone please help me out?

Salem pond, Utah lake, Provo river, Diamond Fork, Hobble creek, and some others. You'd be surprised at some of the large fish in the lower sections of the streams that rarely get fished. Have fun exploring.

Could you tell me where Salem Pond, Diamond Fork, and Hobble Creek are?

It is really Sad, but I have lived in Utah for 20 years and do not know where these locations are.

If you work in Payson, just take the highway that connects payson and Spanish Fork--not the freeway, the highway. You will pass Salem pond, you really can not miss it. Also, Lindon Boat Harbor is not far off the freeway, get off on the 1600 North Orem Exit, head west to Geneva road, then north to 2000 north, the west to lindon boat harbor. Or go to Utah lake state park, go west on Provo Center street to you run into the lake.

You could also head due north of payson and go out to lincoln beach.

Thank you so much. I am really going to have to check these out. Especially Salem Pond.

I have only fished the Lindon Harbor area and have done fairly well for cats, bullhead and occasional white bass, bluegill and crappie. I have had my best luck outside the harbor on the north or south facing sides, not too much luck on the west facing side. I have done well using frozen chubs, redsides and night cralwer/shrimp combos. The smallest cat I have caught has been over 2 pounds with the largest going just short of 15 pounds. Most have been in the 5-8 pound range. If you have any questions on rigging shoot me a PM and I can give you some rigging tips and time frames that have worked the best for me.

Good Luck
Chad

Salem pond gets stocked around this time. They have rainbows, tiger trout, lm bass, sunfish, crappie ,and grass carp those you have to release or get a fine. Also i usually hit lincoln this time of year because fishing is good and since it is only 10 minutes away from my job in payson. Hope this helps.

Under Utah County there is Salem Pond, which is in Salem, and Spring Lake, which is just 1 mile south of Payson on the main hwy (Hwy 198).

Salem Pond is located literally on HWY 198 halfway between Payson and Spanish Fork, in the city of Salem. The northern tip of the pond actually goes under the highway and barely onto the other side. You can park on just about any side of the pond and fish from the shore.

I have caught bluegill and green sunfish from the separate tiny pond at the southwest parking lot. I have also caught small largemouth bass and bluegill at the very southeast corner of the pond as well, and caught channel catfish on the north end.

Spring Lake is located just about 1 block east of HWY 198 in the township of Spring Lake, which is 1 mile south of Payson. Just take the Hwy. past the construction at the south end of town, about another 3/4 mile there is a turnoff to the left (east). Take it and it will pass the north end of Spring Lake. It was drained last year and dredged a bit deeper, so it won't have a lot of fish, but there will be some bluegill and largemouth bass holdovers in it, and maybe even some surviving catfish.

Both ponds are stocked every other week with trout during the spring and fall, and Channel catfish during the summer. Stocking usually begins in April, so it should be stocked any day now.

Hope all this helps! (I live in Payson, and love to fish both these ponds. Salem is especially good for kids cause there is grass and a park as well.)
