My brother in law gave me a 12' jon boat. I bought a 38# electric motor & battery for it. It gets my son and I around on our comunity pond ok, but I am wondering if I need to get it licenced to take it elsewhere in the state? If so do I do this at the dmv? What am I required to take on the water in this small boat besides pfd's & oars?
I may be pushing my luck with all the dumb Q's but I'd also like to hear some of your favorite spots to take a small craft.[

Thanks! KF

You already broke the law![
] Any floatation device with a motor attached must be registered. No matter where you are.

If you use a motor, you have to register. That simple!
I like small places like Causey and Lost Creek. Even places like Trial Lake and Smith and Moore House are fun with a small boat or pontoon.

Kevin, there are lots of reservoirs up Fairview canyon that would be great to fish with a smaller vessel:
Huntington Reservoir (you are familiar with that place)
Fairview Reservoir (can't use the electric trolling motor)
Electric Lake
Millers Flat
Cleveland Reservoir
And several others.
