Fished Pineview from my boat with a friend and two of his boys. Main lake surface water was 50 degrees. Trolled some different lures without a hit.

Moved into one of the protected coves. Water temperature there was 53 degrees. Put on some dinky crappie/perch jig and dressed it up with a wax worm I had left over from ice fishing. Attached a small sinker and threw it toward some submerged brush in about 6 feet of water. Something heavy grabbed it and swam right under my boat and then the line went limp.....cutt clean by a fresh-water baracuda [Wink]. Rigged up another small jig and attached a wax worm again. Several casts later saw the flash of a fish slam my Jig and felt a hefty tug. Thought it was a bass but turned out to be another Tiger. He jumped right out of the water once. Got lucky, hooking it on the outer lips. Netted my first Tiger of the year. Estimated it to be between 25 and 30 inches. I fought the urge to lift him out of the water and weigh it since I've heard they are so delicate. He said adios by flicking water in my face with his tail as he swam away.

Kids and friend got borred cause they were not catching anything so ended up heading back only after a couple hours of fishing.

Water was about 10 feet from full and fairly clear still.

Sounds like a good time! Get any pics of the tiger? Thanks for the report!

Very nice!

I am waiting for the water temps to get a tad bit warmer before I head up there after the tigers and smallies.

Thanks for the report. [cool]

how warm does it need to be for the tigers to get m9re active do you know?

The tigers should start getting more active after 60 degrees, but they are being caught already this year at 50 degrees.

Tiger fishing is about covering water (IMO). You'll notice boat fisherman will do much better on tigers due to their mobility.

I really like targeting smallies at Pineview. I normally start doing really well on them in May. [Smile]

[cool][#0000ff]Congrats on finding some tigers to play with, and thanks for being kind to them in return.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Everybody should be aware that there will be no more tiger muskies planted in the foreseeable future. Utah's source for tiger tots is now off limits due to the rapid spread of VHS, a nasty multi-species fish disease, and active in the area we get our stock.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]We all need to encourage anglers not to handle the tigers at all, but to remove the hooks while leaving the fish in the water if at all possible. Let's keep the mortality rate low and take good care of the fish we have. They may be all we get for a long time.[/#0000ff]
