Friday, 03/06/07- Late Report, hit the water at 6:00am. Lots of anglers out today. Arrived at Las Vegas Wash to find folks tossing nets successfully for shad. Darn, my net was at home in a bucket, next to the house. Anchored near the entrance to the wash, started chumming and soaking frozen shad.

Lots of scum and brush in the water today. Thought I would park in the middle of it and see what might turn up. Carp all over the place.

Slow action in this muddy spot. Two stripers in the box, released two really small ones.

Smooth sailing on the way home. Can it get any better than this? Off the water by 9:00am.

Nice fish, they look healthy. I think as the water warms a little more the bait bite should pick up. I need to get out with the net to stock up the freezer with shad. What I do is put a shad on the hook and let the line down about 25 to 30 feet then use my trolling motor and just drive around until I catch a fish then go back over the same area in case there was a school there. I have pretty good luck with this method sometimes.

I'm almost out of frozen shad, so you might see me tossing a net real soon. Usually stock up around Nov. in preparation for winter & spring fishing. I love live bait fishing. Using the electric motor to stay over fish works. Drifting on a calm day works. Anchoring on a windy day, chumming with the shad that die in the tank, is another way. I've sent live shad down 140 ft. off Sand Island and caught stripers....... maybe I'll get the net out and start practicing on the back lawn!
