I would get some of each. Put it on a rig that is 2 feet under a bobber and wait for the bite.[cool]

[Smile] I usually use a #4 hook with a slip bobber when fishing for white perch, which is also called crappie here in Louisiana. I use nightcrawlers, minnows, and catalpa worms. I haven't seen waxworms here. They may be here but not at the bait store that I go to.

some nightcrawlers with just a hook and a bobber might work.

use the night crawler and try putting the waxworm on the tip of the hook [Wink]

I like small minnows on a number six for perch, but worm and waxworm works too,

I agree with dave, Ive caught alot of yellow perch down here fishing with crapppie minnows. But I kow some states like Utah its illigal to use minnows. I guess they are scared of them populating in a waterway. Matt

Sort of an open ended question on the bait and hook size with the two fish but when I'm using wax worms I'm down sizing hook/jig to as small as a # 10.

This time of year the Yellow Perch in my area are generally still on the ice jigs and wax worm/spike combo (rat finkes, rockers, shrimpos, marmooskas etc.,..) Crappies on the same and small jigging spoons (pimples and Hali) tipped with small Crappie minnows or river shinners.. what ever is on their menu.

I like crawlers for both fish and a #6 hook is fine with a chunk - 1/2 crawler. #6 works well with the minnows too under a slip float hooked behind the dorsal, vertical jigging, Lindy rigging or a plain split shot and hook set up. I prefer the octopus style hooks by either Gamakatsu or VMC (fast-grip).. wider gap and shorter shank for bait rigging.
