Went up to "the rock" on friday. found bunches of fish, we were able to limit out with some culling and my dad (of course) managed two browns over 20" i did catch one brown but mine wasnt in the same size . the fish were holding anywhere from 10 to 25 feet down and we found most of them just south of the boat ramp by the "big rocks" we did try along the west side and found a couple but the best by far was just south of the rocks. I did mark a big school of perch in 40' of water and set up to vetical jig got 6 and then they moved or we did . but the trout was more fun so we left them alone and started trolling again.
Hot lure a Kwikfish in bright green with red / orange bottom or a worm harness with no pop gear just run it with the one blade and trail the worm ..
Good luck
I wont go back up there fopr a while i get to go turkey hunting next weekend.. Anyone know a good spot i have the wasatch tag.. i might call turkeys in the morning and fish deer creek during the day.. oh what a freat life..

Is there such a thing as legally " culling" in Utah ?
[signature]
Culling is illigal for Trout in Utah!
See page 13 of the proc. Bag and possession limits.
There are a lot of anglers that don't know this, but the DWR sure does!
Know the regs and avoid a citation. It makes for a much funner fishing trip!

The way I interpret the 2007 proclomation, culling is not legal for trout.

Ok people what i ment to say is .. we took the barbs off the hooks and practiced catch and release. not one of the fish we released even made it in the boat.

[cool][#0000ff]Culling refers to the practice of keeping all the fish you catch and then discarding smaller ones as you catch bigger ones...until you have a limit of bigger fish.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]That is how the bass tournament guys do it. They put all the "legal" sized fish in their livewells until they have a limit. Then, each larger fish they catch after that goes into the live well and a smaller one is pitched back in the lake. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Bassers usually have good livewells and a special solution in their tanks to help keep the fish healthy, but most Utah anglers do not. It used to be common to see folks lined up around Strawberry with metal stringers full of trout, and dead fish floating all around in front of them from being thrown back in after replacing them with larger ones.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]That is why Utah does not allow the practice. Another law to protect the fragile hatchery pets from becoming stressed or killed by heavy handed fishemen. As most of us know, trout cannot stand much handling. Even with careful handling and release many of them go belly up when you put them back in the water. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Most of the "warm water" species are somewhat tougher, but you should always keep fish in the water and touch only the hook or lure if you intend to release them. That kind of release does not count as culling...just good C&R. There will always be some mortality factor on released fish, but proper handling keeps it at a minimum. Definitely better than going home on a stringer or in a cooler.[/#0000ff]
