Well, what a weekend.. do I have to go back to work? The gorge treated me and my fishing bud very well.. We found a few fish that wanted to play, as another poster said during his gorge days this weekend that he might have to use dynamite to get them fish in.. well that might be a good idea for me!!! [
] This was a trip for the books.. as I had a GREAT time.. (thanks again you know who you are... I owe you and owe you big!!!) Who would have thought that I would have had such a great trip with no problems on FRI the 13th?? And dang them big fish..... oh wait.. dang the fisherman!![

Ohhhh yesss.. good point.. I did have a hit or 2 or 3.. or more.. (lost track, and trying to make myself feel better!) did hang on to a few for a short time.. short being the key word.. with one getting up to the top but not in the boat so my buddy tells me that doesnt count?!!![pirate]
[signature]
Hold on now. Did you see the fish you lost? The "rule" is that if you see the fish, get a visual, that it counts. No visual, no count.
Netting and/or photos are just an after-the-fact formality.

My buddy and I were also out on Friday. I need to get some stickers on my boat so when people see them they can come and chat. Sounds like you had the same problem as my buddy. Oh well can't catch them all I guess. Maybee I should hook the two of you up and you could have a tournament to see who could catch the first fish. LOL!!! Just kidding. Glad you had a good trip.

OHHH I saw one of em up to the top!!! So I guess that does count!! YIPEE cuz Im telling everyone now that it counts, after EVERYONE is giving me a hard time!!! (oh and by the way she wasnt to bad of a fish!!!)
[signature]
There you go! That's a caught fish. Take it to the bank. Definite. Once you see 'em, the work's done. Mission accomplished.
[signature]
Yes the work might be done once you see the fish but without a pic it is a fishin tale about the one that got away. I know I have had the state record on the end of my line several times if thats the case.[
] Just kiddin. Nice job on the fish Ilv2fish!!!

[sly]State record??? I had the world record of every species, at least I had them to the boat and did a "long line release" of them. Who might I contact to get my name in the record books??? Ripley's Believe it or Not????[

Maybe I could pay my friend to jump in after them.. I think the water temp was way up in the low 40's thats pretty warm isnt it?!!! Or I guess maybe I could be a LITTLE less excited???? nah.. we know that aint going to happen.. so maybe the jumping in will??

OK, now nobody get their little feathers ruffled here, BUT [sly][sly]
The only person that needs to know is the person who catches the fish anyway. The so-called "record" has been topped more than once. I've personally weighed a fish in the mid-50s from the Gorge, though I didn't catch it. I also saw one in the mid-high 50's weighed and released in Swim Beach a few years back by a Gorge "regular" (he swore me to secrecy-didn't want any attention) Bilby's 51 whatever isn't the biggest laker caught from the Gorge. That's a fact.
All the "record" is, is the largest fish some bozo killed to get some recognition and make up for a deficiency somewhere else. Of course, it takes a pretty big man to kill a 40 year old fish just to see his name somewhere.[
]
We shouldn't even keep fish records. Who cares? It doesn't matter. And if guys would release more of the 30's and 40's they catch, we'd all be getting fish in the 50's by now. But oh, no, they gotta "just keep one for the wall." Stupid!!! Put a picture on the wall!
There, no offense to anyone, just the way it ought to be. If you want to impress somebody, do something other than catching and killing an old fish. I don't give a darn how big anyone's rack is. Kill an illegal immigrant or something![

see what happens when I'm stuck inside in a gale-force wind![sly][sly]
And Ilv2fish:--It still counts!!!!!!!!!!! They all do!

Right On Jim! I am lookin forward to gettin a few "up to view" in July with ya buddy.
I cant wait!

Tarponjim, I do agree with you. I have never nor do I plan to ever take any big fish from the Gorge or any other place for that matter. All I have is pics and memories for the big ones through the years.
I had this same conversation with my buddy this weekend and he asked how big the fish had to be to keep, and I told him I wouldn't keep one and that pics and memories were enough, but if I ever caught the right one I would consider a replica mount. If you remember I asked about replica mounts on a post a couple weeks back.
Also I know that Ilv2fish had a great weekend and was probably plum exited to get a fish to where he did. So what if it did not get in the boat it is still a memory. I was just giving a friend a hard time he would have done the same to me if the roles were reversed.[
]
Anyway good luck with everything when you hit the pond in a couple of weeks.[sly]

YOU KNOW A GOOD TAXI MAN FOR FENCE JUMPERS.LOL. I KNOW HONDAS ARE GOOD BAIT FOR THEM.LOL

Glad we're on the same page! I just don't get all that record stuff anyway. Besides, what's one fish? Just being in the right place, at the right time, doing something right, with luck on your side. heck, every fish that gets caught on my boat is luck. Really. Some guys just make more luck than others, that's all.
Somebody who is consistent gets more respect from my eyes than the guy who lucks into a big fish. The guys on the Gorge, for example, know who they are. There's a few guys who fish up there (quite a few these days!) who can go out and catch nice macks just about anytime they want when conditions are decent. Someday, someone will get the 60 or 70 pounder that IS in there. Hope its one of us.

Alright guys here's the deel. I don't want this post to get way out of had like some of the others around here have lalely. Ilv2fish and I are real good friends, and I was the one that took him out with me last weekend.
Ilv2fish and I hadn't talked to each other for a couple of years until I joined BFT a few weeks ago and posted some pics of some Macks another friend and I had caught. Once he saw the pics he contacted me and I invited him down for a weekend on the Gorge.
It was an excellent weekend for both of us, most of you have seen the pics of the fish I caught in the Friday the 13th post. Although he might not have caught any fish to "take pictures of" he still had the opportunity to see and hold the biggest laketrout he has ever seen!! He also was giving me crap about how I was calling the fish babies when he thought they were real big.LOL[laugh]
I did not mention that I went with him in my post because we decided it would be best to keep the "New Friends List" to a minimum. Most of you guys know what I mean by that. Anyway here is a couple of pics of Ilv2fish holding the biggest macks "babies" he has seen to date.

[font "Comic Sans MS"][black][size 3]Hey, I wanna be on the "New Friends List" too. C'mon, Brazure! Please? LOL! Can I hold your fish too! LMAO! JK![/size][/black][/font]
[signature]
OHHHH boy.. that is a fine fine looking feller... did I mention how good looking he is? LOL.. yup that was one heck of a weekend.. do I really have to go back to work?!!!
[signature]
Yes, those ARE nice fish! I don't care who you are. Those count. (so do the ones on the 13th post.)
But Craig: I said they counted if you saw them, but you can't hold some other guys' fish for pictures. That's "against the rules!"[sly] You should just take your visual catch and be happy with it!
I get the "friends list" thing. Like BLM said recently, big fish make people crazy. Look at him!
And this post isn't derailed. It has become interesting and informative IMO.
