Ive been wanting to go get some perch cause theyre so tasty, but I wanted to know the best soft water tactic. Ive gotten them hard water, but havent tried soft before. Ill be in my tube. Any suggestions? It'll be next week sometime, after finals. Like Monday.

For Perch I have always done well on chartruse jiggs on a small round head. But i have never fished for them at that lake before. Although I know the perch are active under the ice I think they are still pretty deep. I am sure TD can chime in here as I know he is the resident expert on them.

[cool][#0000ff]Perch generally do not begin showing up much until the water warms to about 65. They come shallow to spawn, and then go back out into deep water until June or so. By July most folks are fishing them in less than 20 feet of water and by August they are pretty shallow.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]You can catch them from your tube, but you will need sonar and luck. Tough to find the schools but if you do you can catch them with ice fishing tactics. Drop a "sweetened" jig or small spoon down to them and keep it near the bottom.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Right now even the trout are playing hard to get on Lake X. But, there are always a few of the regulars who smack some big browns this time of year...usually trolling Rapalas or other hardbaits on downriggers.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]We need some good weather to warm the water and let the fish settle down.[/#0000ff]

When I was up there on 4/7 the water temp was only about 44-45 degrees.

I was worried the perch would be hiding. I guess I had better wait till the weather becomes more compliant. I've been out a few times on the Provo and UL but have not had much luck at all. I brought home a couple whities yesterday, but other than that it's been a disappointing week. Especially the weather part.
