I want to mount my motor to the front of my pontoon but I could use some suggestions, picture, diagrams etc. Last year I just mounted a 4"x6" piece of 1" wood to my foot rest, but it broke by mid year. Thanks for any and all ideas.

[black]If you can follow my instructions, you can see one method of mounting a TM up front on a toon. [/black]

If you go down one category to "pictures", and look at a posting of modifications to a toon by idahopanfish "my toon mods" he has listed several pictures of a recent change he has made to his craft.

The last picture in that group shows how he mounted his TM. That might give you an idea or two. I hope that my instructions are clear.

[black]PS: I located another location, Go to the top item in this grouping, "Best of the Best", and there is a section of that thread entitled Mounts and motors or something like that.[/black]

If you look under the listings, you will see some that refer to bow mounted TMs. In fact, TubeDude, who has collected and posted all of that section, has acquired a great amount of information that would be beneficial to anyone with a toon. It makes good reading, and provides many ideas for modifications.

I got to ask, why do you want it on the front?

A couple of reasons:
1- I can tip the motor and operate in very little depth without hit the prop on the bottom, weeds, etc
2- I put the control handle almost in my lap, thus making it easier to turn off when I am trolling and catch a fish.
3- Easy of controlling directions better than reaching back or buying an extension handle.
4- Being a large man, it balances the weight more evenly between the front and back.

Just really a preference. I tried it on the back and really didn't like. I put in on the front on felt it worked better for me. All of my buddies I fish with have now mounted their on the front also.

They started off on the front and after loosing several fish to getting stuck in the prop, switched, but what ever works for you is the right way.[/#bf0060]
[#bf0060]I do wanna point out, that a pontoon pulls better than pushes, but I am sure you already know that.[/#bf0060]
[#bf0060]Everything you strive for can be achieved with the motor on the back. A little modification, but you will be doing that to mount it to the front.[/#bf0060]
[#bf0060]#1. I can tilt my motor or even raise it up[/#bf0060]
[#bf0060]#2. With about $15. mod. I can put the control anywhere I want.[/#bf0060]
[#bf0060]#3. Same as no. 2[/#bf0060]
[#bf0060]#4. Put the battery righ5t behind your seat and slide the fram forward, it will balance out.[/#bf0060]
[#bf0060][/#bf0060]
[#bf0060]I am not trying to pick a fight or stir the pot, just giving you options.[/#bf0060]
[#bf0060]The main motor on a boat is on the back. I know that trolling motors are on the front, but they are for fine tuning like your feet and flippers, plus I know a boat will go foward better, but the motor is out of the way of everything.[/#bf0060]
[#bf0060]Check out photos section, I added some.[/#bf0060]

[#bf0060]Final note....WHAT IS RIGHT IS WHAT IS RIGHT FOR YOU![/#bf0060]
