I am a newbie to the site. I have checked the posts for a month or two and decided to get in on the action! A few of us are heading to pineview after we take our last final in a few days to see if we can get into some muskie and smallmouth. None of us are familiar with the lake, so I wanted to see if I can get a few tips from the experts on how to get into the smallmouth and maybe a muskie or two. Pics will follow.

If the water gets warm the muskies will be in the shallows if its stil cold they will be deeper. But for a lure i usually use a frenzy that looks like a baby bass and i throw it in the weeds then reel it in at different speeds. But as for small mouth i have no idea.

XML's advice on the musky is good. I too like to throw Frenzy's for them.

Before I give any advice regarding smallies, let me ask, are you going to be shorebound?

Yeah, I guess I should have stated that, but I have a little 12 ft. boat that I run around on and am planning to use that.

Thanks.

Cast various jigs towards the shore, especially if there is some submerged brush.

3" tubes, 5" worms, and 3" grubs hopped along the edge of the submerged brush should score you some nice fish. Colors I have my best success up there with are: motor oil, light browns, light greens, and occasionally chartreuse.

Throwing various lures like a frenzy or rapalas will also score some nice smallies, along with tigers.

Good luck, and let us know how you do! [cool]
