Yo! You know the Mighty Green River I went fishing there back in '92 or '93.

I went to Jensen Utah, whoever thought at that elevation there would be kitties.

OK anyways, here is my burning question there is no fishing pressure on many many miles of the Green River for cats. None! Except probably around Moab.

Does any one here fish down on the Green near Moab, any big cats there?

I have read all about the species of minnows and there ia an abundance of Red Shiners (not Redside Shiners) that live in the Green River. The cats would love them! They loved them when I lived in Arizona.

I would assume there to be some big cats there! I was curious about this area for some time.

I love to fish for fish where there is not much pressure.

Oh yeah I went to Sportsmans in Midvale today, they are awesome thay have Redsides and Chubs, and they are big!!

It would be better of they had the Chubs in a smaller size though.

They also have Anchovies too! Cool buy the way you can use those for Trout they are not just a Stripped Bass or Salmon bait.

I use to fish for cats on the green river near green river utah alot as a kid. There are very large kitty's there to be had and many many small ones (8 to 16") There is locations near town where the action is always fast and furious (locate the old pump house diversion pool upstream from town for some fast action)

Cat fishing on the green from the state line down to the confluence with the colorado river has declined greatly. The DWR has aggressively been removing all predatory species from that stretch of river to help the endangered endemics. As for removing catfish, they've managed to remove many of the larger fish that preyed directly on the fry of the endangered, but in there place is thousands of small cats. There used to be some great pike, smallmouth and walleye fishing along that stretch of the green for people who knew where to look, but not any more. The last few times I fished there before I moved out of Vernal I didn't catch a single toothy fish and I didn't catch a cat over 10".

Hi

Thanks for the response, you know there are so many factors invlolved with keeping these endangered fishes from extinction!

I will not go to the Green for any reason if thats the case.

I went to a website that is a database for the fishes that live in Utah.

There you can see what fishes, mainly minnows, are in competition with the endangered species.

Here is a fact some of the fish were not even common before they put dams on the Green and Colorado rivers!

However the case may be, I'm disturbed by the presence of manmade structures on our rivers.

Look at the Provo, for example, that big canal at the end of the canyon, ugh!![pirate]

One of the many threats to the endangered fish is the Red Shiner.

Here is a pick of one; I used to catch these when I lived in Yuma, Arizona.

Red Shiners are adorable fish and cats love 'em.

You can go to this website and see all of the fishes that live in Utah including the minnows.

By the way, as mentioned before, Red Shiners are a threat to the native fishes of the Colorado and Green River systems.

They are abundant, thats why I wanted to try the Green if there is lots of food, plus the Green Rivers habitat would be suitable for alot of cats, and lots of minnows to eat, too!

Oh well you can't blame our government with wanting to protect endangerd wildlife.

A perfect example is Provo Canyon, you can see our fellow Republicans and Democrats working hard at preserving the canyon.

That big ugly canal helps protect the Brown Trout as well.
