Anyone see any large numbers of carp in shallow water at Utah Lake recently. I'm getting the itch for a bowhunt!

thanks!

[cool][#0000ff]They were starting to stage before the two week storm moved in. But, on my trip Wednesday I only saw a couple of carp jump and they were way out from shore.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Down at Lincoln Beach they will be going back into that cove on the other side of the pump house. On my last trip down there they were already crowding into the reeds along the edge of that cove. There are warm springs that come into the back end and it brings them in sooner than in other areas.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Should be some reports over the weekend, and I will be going down again next Tuesday. I also like to ventilate some of those plug uglies so I am anxious to see some targets too.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]The water temp should jump over the 60 degree mark within a few days. They spawn between there and 65 so it could happen fast. Temps were at 53-57 Wednesday.[/#0000ff]

Tubedude,

Thanks for the report. I've read your posts for a long time now, and you've always been reliable. Do you think Saturday would be a good day to take another look at Lincoln Beach? If so, is there an ideal time of day?

thanks,

Steve

[cool][#0000ff]The fish were ready to start spawning a couple of weeks ago, but it got put on hold by the weather. THEY ARE READY. With this warm weather they will be swarming the shallows. maybe not time for the big spawn yet, but there will be a lot of anxious fish checking out the facilities.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I like to go down right at daybreak, to find large individual fish cruising shallow. But, for mass hysteria, wait until the sun warms the shallows a few degrees, later in the morning, and watch the wacko carp rolling all over each other. DISGUSTNG.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Sometimes the fish stay shallow all day. Other times they hit it heavy for a short time in the morning and then regroup later in the afternoon or evening. You never know. They don't post their schedules.[/#0000ff]

Where should I put these carp once I shoot them. I know they'll swim away if I let them go, but what's the best idea?

thanks,

Steve

[cool][#0000ff]There are usually a lot of fishermen down there on weekends and many of them will take one or two carp for bait.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Otherwise, either swallow your concern or Take a big box lined with a heavy duty contractor plastic bag. Put the carcasses in it and either take them to a landfill...or deposit them in the dumpster of some business you are not particularly fond of.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]The reality is that very few fish "go to waste" in that ecosystem. Between seagulls and other birds, and the crawdads, and the mink and raccoons down there, dead fish gets "recycled" pretty quickly.[/#0000ff]
