TD you posted that plastic dip is a very good remedy to repair waders & other items. But I am curious if plastic dip will work on breathable waders. Or do I need to use wader patch kits?
Will plastic dip work on sealing a small hole on a float tube, like the Fat Cat w/ a urathane bladder.
I'm just getting ideas when things come about.

It will work on breathable, but you will give up that breathable material. It will be more like rubber against you and you will sweat.
Never tried it on Urethane bladders, I prefer the tape on them.
Have used aqua seal on the outer covers before.

As FG said, it will work on breathable waders but, depending on the size of the leak, you'll lose the "breathability" in the places that you seal up. I've used it to seal leaky seams and small pin hole leaks.
It will not work for patch anything under pressure as it only lays down a thin coat of rubberized material, which would blow out the minute you pumped it up.

[cool][#0000ff]Unless you have Hodgman Wadelite breathable waders you should never need to use something as radical as the Plastidip. Good waders develop the occasional pinhole leak, but seldom a seam leak or multiple pinholes.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]The Hodgman waders often leak right out of the box. Their breathable material often breathes water. And, almost all of them develop wear points within a short time and begin to allow "seepage". Not a problem in warm summer waters, but a trip killer in cold water.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I have had a couple of pairs of those things that would ooze water from a dozen different pinholes, around the lower leg area, within a month or two of purchase. These are not punctures...just poor material. Of course they went back, but it is a pain to have to keep returning them, even if they are warrantied.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I did use the Plastidip on an old pair of Hodgmans that were virtually useless because of all the leaks. I painted a large area of the inside surface to plug all the little holes. It worked great, but the waders kept springing new leaks faster than I could find and cover them.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]As you have been advised, the Plastidip is not a good remedy for patching air bladders. Use the kits supplied by the manufacturer or Aquaseal.[/#0000ff]

Uh Oh...I got Hodgman Wadelite.....I think I better invest on a can of plastic dip. The place I work at had them on sale for $60 w/ a $20 rebate. If they leak, I'll be exchanging them for something else.
Thanks for the headsup about the Hodgman. I was wondering why they were cheaper than other breathable waders....

[cool][#0000ff]Hodgman fills a need...a price wader for those who do not fish much or who are on a tight budget...or both. They make no claims for being the highest quality, longest lasting product on the market, but they do have a 1 year warranty...and they back it up.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]The pricier waders usually use a costlier breathable material, like Goretex. You can't get high quality and low price together in most cases.[/#0000ff]

They do sell the plastic dip brand in a spray can too. That would probably be easier than trying to find each and every little hole.[cool]

I concur with TD's assessment of the Hodgman waders. I've had two sets of Hodgman breathables (Wadelite and Stretchlite). Both developed leaks after surprisingly short use. The seams at the top of the bootfoot are especially vulnerable. But it seems like once they start develping the pin hole leaks they go all at once. Conversely, I've had Hodgman neoprene waders last for years. I keep a pair of the neo's around for really cold days and for guests.
I've never sprung for the highest quality waders like Simms, but I have had very good results with a pair of Dan Bailey breathables. They're on the fourth season this year. Not a single leak yet.
My two cents.

I couldn't agree more about the hodgemans'. I have a pair. This is the third par on warranty and they are into their second season now. When they spring that inevitable leak I will probably go to a cabelas brand. Or something equal. The 1st pair leaked on the 1st trip out, and back they went, got half a dozen trips on the second pair, then back they went. This third pair has held up so far. But will be "testing" them Tuesday. I think I'll take the neoprenes just in case.
