For those who dont know what they are, and those who have the little Muddy chimneys in their yards, and wonder about the creator of them, here's a link to a Knoxville article that will explain them.
It's probably not too big of a problem out west, but down here, in the land of Soggy yards, they are a bit of a pest.
Note the caution against eating them.

Fly Goddess. One of the cautions about eating those little buggers is that they absorb a ton of Lawn Care products in their little tails.
However, Mudbug boils are a Staple in the South.[cool] But we normally buy them from the growers. A family of four will smack down 60 Lbs at a sitting.
Strangly enough, I didn't hear of one MudBug farm losing anything to Hurricanes Rita or Katrina.
When Bad weather comes, the Mudbugs burrow down in the mud.

The mudbugs, crawdads, or craw fish are best when they are harvested from nice clear water instead of in your back yard.
We used to catch them in great quantities when I lived in Sacramento CA. We would dive for them in some nice Salmon waters.
After harvesting close to 100lbs of them, we would take them home, steam them and peel the meat out of the tails. They were always succulent and delicious dipped in some nice melted garlic butter.[cool]
