I've been on vacation this week and hoped to fish every day. I ended up sorting tackle on Monday and didn't get to the water. On Tuesday I went bass fishing and got skunked. Today (Wednesday) I figured I'd just go carping. Turned out to be a good choice.

Fish were in full spawn mode. If you've fished for them you know that it is nearly a waste of time to cast to them when they're in the lovemaking mode. Here are a couple of frolicking shots - tastefully displayed, of course.

During the spawn you have to ignore the boistrous fish and hunt for feeders in the shallows. I managed to hook up after quite a bit of hunting.

The fish on the bent rod turned out to be this 7 pounder.

Not long after this fish I hooked its evil twin - another 7 pounder.

Soon another fish decided he (or she) liked me. This one a nine pounder.

For accessing the carp flats I like to use my canoe. It's quicker than the tube and easily pulled up onto the bank.

I had figured on hitting the trout ponds tomorrow but getting pulled by those bugglemouths may require a return trip.

[#0000ff]Interesting that the carp spawn in your area is going on at the same time ours is. All of the bow fishermen are ventilating poor lovelorn carpkind with arrows as they frolic in the froth. I plan to twang a few myself and process them for "catfish chow".[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]I'm sure that the goddess lady will be jealous. She quite enjoyed her fall from grace (catching carp on a flyrod). I'm guessing she will chime in on this one.[/#0000ff]
