Went with my pal, crappiehunter down to the Kankakee today...it started off real slow, but after about an hour we put a good pattern together and managed to take 40 largemouths and a half dozen slab gills.
Pictures and full report later.

Kankakee River Backwater Area 3 - May 10, 2007
Wind was changing directions, but for the most part coming out of the Northwest between 5 - 12mph.
Sky was clear most of the day but did cloud up a few times.
Air temperature was hovering around 83.
Birds and other wildlife were active everywhere.
crappiehunter and myself were fishing Black Oak Bayou backwater area off the Kankakee River.
It was a tough bite early on, but we managed to catch 40 bass working a stump field under heavy weed cover.
We tried a variety of baits, the Assassin, the Rodent, Buzz baits, Spinners, Johnson Silver Minnow, etc. but the only bait that would work in the heavy slop we were fishing was a T-rigged Tiki worm. We had our best luck, "walkin-the-dog" with the worm on top of the slop, and swimmin' the worm through the pockets. We did try working the worm slow and deep, but with little success, the more aggressive fish were chasing minnows just underneath the matted weeds.
Here's a picture of the area we fished:
and here's a few of the fish we caught yesterday:
If you weren't fishing in the weeds, you weren't catching fish...
...all in all, it was another great day down by the Kankakee!
