[cool][font "Verdana,Arial,Helvetica"][black][size 1][#0000ff]Weather forecast was for wind on Starvation today. So, what else is new. We went anyway. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Air temp was 29 as we cruised by Strawberry at 6 AM. It was a balmy 40 when we launched at Rabbit Gulch, about 7. Water temp was only 56...down a bit from last week...and it had pushed the perch out into deeper water.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Whacked a few smallmouth along the shoreline early, with diving crankbaits. Then started working an assorment of jigs and baits to try to find some walleyes and/or perch. Picked up some small perch in about 12-13 feet of water. Kept going deeper. Finally found a productive area in 20-22 feet of water and tossed out my marker buoy. Started catching perch fairly fast, with quite a few over our "table target" of 10". Hollered at TubeBabe on the walkie talkie and got her to motate over to the productive area.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Just as things were getting good, a noisy little boat trolled right between us and our marker buoy. Their yappy dog was barking at us but the people just pretended we weren't there. The lady hooked but lost a decent smallmouth. Broke her line. No excuse for that stuff. Karma.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Some guy in another boat kept waving at me. I could not tell who it was. He came closer and introduced himself. Good friend and fishing buddy Pikeman. Silly me. I was focused on fishing, not fraternizing. He had been working hard for some walleyes but had scored only perch and smallies too. Correction, he did have a nice 20" brown he had kept for the table. Got him to pose for a picture.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]TubeBabe and I had been joking about the "nasty winds". Little more than a light breeze at any time, with a long period of almost flat calm. I was toying with the idea of kicking further across the channel when WINDZILLA turned the fan on high. Out of nowhere we were suddenly blasted with a northwest wind, that quickly piled up the chop and washed over the sides of our tubes as we churned the water to make it to shore. TubeBabe managed to make a landing near the vehicle. I washed ashore about a quarter mile down the lake, and left my gear to go get the car and bring it to my LZ.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Fishing was over. TubeBabe had managed to add a half dozen nice perch to her basket. I had about 15. Plenty for us and the sister in law who trades great cookies for fish fillets.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]We loaded up and drove up over the dam and around to Juniper Point and Knight's Hollow, just to check water levels and potential launch conditions. The view from the overlook above the dam was scary. The blasting wind had a great batch of popcorn on the water.[/#0000ff]

TD --

Sounds like a great trip! Looks like you guys are having an SFC retirement tour before your new rides get there Smile

Looks like a fun day.
[signature]
[cool][#0000ff]Yeah, the "Chubby Kitties" still float us well, and still catch fish. But, it is time to move on. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Still waiting for the "Rojo Twins". Some suppliers have better shipping and service than others. So far I am underwhelmed with North Fork. Ordered and paid two weeks ago. In all fairness they are a small organization and they have been overwhelmed with business. That's the price you pay for developing a product in high demand. [/#0000ff]
[signature]
Nice report TD wish I could have been there. But then ya probably would have had wind the whole time [Wink].

When are ya expecting the new toys? Kind of thought you would be floating on them by now. I guess service isn't what it use to be anymore either huh.
[signature]
Looks like it was a nice trip until Uncle WaWa decided to come for a visit. I think you will love the Twins when you get them.
[signature]
[cool][#0000ff]Yeah, when that blast of wind hit I started looking around to see if you had just arrived. Ha![/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]We gots to hit it after the first of June. Once the water warms back up a few degrees it should be gangbusters.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]When am I expecting the Rojo Twins? Early last week. I guess that is what I get for expecting. If I don't get them until Christmas I will just add some holly and jingle bells and be festive for the season. Ho, ho, ho.[/#0000ff]
[signature]
[cool]Great report. Nasty wind. Too bad about the tardy tubes. Hope you get them soon 'cause the rest of us want to see how you look in red.

z~
[signature]
Not only in red Zonkers, he will need to add the white beard and pointed snowballed tassled hat!
Let us not forget the black patten leather booties also. I wonder if the jingle bells are a fish atractant? Or will the smell of reindeer scare the fish away?

I slid over to UL Thurs. hit the water no wind just glass. Within an hour I was kicking for all I was worth to get back to shore. BTW the Quantum was worn out according to the factory. They will be repairing it and sending it back. I'm having a hard time believing that I wore a reel out in less than 3 yrs.

Your on for the june trip just let me know when. I think I can get away just about anytime now. Just need a day or two notice.

Maybe by the time you get your babies I'll have mine. Wouldn't that just suck for ya. Providing it's not before christmas that is LOL.
[signature]
[cool][#0000ff]You are really tough on tackle. Maybe you should shop for "carp-rated" reels.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]TubeBabe has a week long trip to California the first week of June. I'll PM you the dates and we can plan a "guy trip" to Starvation...and/or wherever else we wanna go.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Cool it with the Santa and Christmas references. I'll put a lump of coal in your waders.[/#0000ff]
[signature]
Looking forward to planin a few trips with ya.

What no bundle of sticks? Does that coal come with a ribbon ........... I'm partial to the color blue.

Not sure if I need carp rated or kitty rated reels. I bet it was the perch at LakeX that did it.
[signature]
[cool][#0000ff]Gives a whole new meaning to the phrase "road-tested". Any tackle that can survive the abuse you dish out would be good stuff.[/#0000ff]
[signature]
Here I thought I was gentle on my equipment. Don't drag it or lay it in the dirt. Clean it at least once a year. Only catch the smallest of fish. Never set the drag to tight, use the best of lines. Heck my reels should never wear out as little use as they get!!!

BTW DC is slow, but I did manage my 1st eye this morning. A dinky lil 13 incher and skinny as all get out. I would have thought with all the high water in the lake the forage would have replenished by now. But the bows are fat at least. The old ladys dogs will be eatin good for a couple of days, no they didn't get the eye. They get slimers, you know the fun to catch lousy to eat fish LOL
[signature]
[cool][#0000ff]Does rainbow rhyme with Alpo?[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I don't think the DWR folks would be happy knowing that their darling hatchery pets were being used for dog chow.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]The perch in Starvation are "slim" right now too. They gotta raise some of their new fry to edible size so they can put on some weight.[/#0000ff]
[signature]
No rainbow doesn't ryme with alpo, however the alpo bag is the same color!

I didn't read anything in the Proc that stated that I could not use my daily bag limit how I choosed. It did state that I may not waste that harvest.

With all the bad dog food out there right now and having older dogs with special needs. The hatchery pets are a really good options for them. Besides it's just a suplement not their whole diet.

I seldom eat trout anymore. There are much better tasting fish around these days. And I can catch trout any time, talk about easy to catch. I'll make an exception for older fish and most browns and brooks.

I always knew my TubeDad was Santa Clause.[cool]
[signature]
Can ya picture it tN2. Brite red H-3, White haired big dude decked out all in red with white trim. A funny little pointed hat with a white snowball on the end. Patten leather fins, green rods, mini lights on the rod racks, a star atop the fish basket, being pulled around UL by a couple of golden bones named Dancer and Prancer. Tossing out his home made specials to the folks who have gathered to watch the festival of lights. Ho ho ho and a merry fishing trip to all.
[signature]
I guess you brought it all into perspective.

As a kid, my friends used to tell me "You believe in Santa Clause"?? "It's just your dad you fool"!

Now I know they were telling the truth.[shocked]
[signature]
[cool][#0000ff]Whoa, Marty. You need to change your meds...or get me some of what you are on. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I would never have a pointy star on my fish basket. Too much risk of a punctured air bladder.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]The rest of it might be doable. Not sure about the golden bone propulsion system though. I may have arrowed Prancer yesterday at Lincoln Beach. Hard to do an accurate ID. They all look alike.[/#0000ff]
[signature]
Change them?! I just thought that they finally got them right. I'm feein much better now............ As Gomez might say. No pointy star huh, how about an inflateable one? No sharp points there. But ya think ya killed Prancer do you. Donner and Dixon are gonna be Sad. But then they do all look alike. Maybe no one will notice. LOL
