My dad just bought a lot in Willard to build his "last" house. They picked up 1/2 acre in a nice spot(see picture). He has worked a new ski/fishing boat into the budget. I have only fished willard a few times. Is it good year round? What is your favorite way/species to fish there?

Wipers in the boils! Topwater or with rattlin rapalas in shad colors. Willard can be good all year long but tends to slow way down in the winter. Trolling with various lures will get you wipers, cats and eyes at certain times.

Wipers by far are the most fun to catch, pound for pound that is the best fight I can find within an hour of my house(with the exception of my wife, she can put up a mean battle)[Smile]! I have the most success Trolling, probably because I do it the most. But as LH2 said, casting top waters or crank baits into a boil is the apex of Willard Bay fishing.
Good luck, have fun and post...
I have a 2 out of 6 trip catching record on Willard this year, its been ruff since the water level change.

Your Dad is a very very smart man! He just bought the most prime of all prime real
estate to build his last house ( I say dream house for all the willard bay "pirates" regulars!) Way nice!

Youll be having alot of fun staying at your dad's place so you can be a bay pirate trolling the waters!

Lucky you! youll be getting into crappies Smallies and a few largies, getting towed by wipers, cleaning up the cats, nibbled by the perch population and get smitten by those inclusive eyes. Youre a lucky lucky kid![cool]

[cool][#0000ff]Get a 55 gallon drum of industrial strength skeeter juice.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Also, make sure to mount twin 50 caliber machine guns on both bow and stern of your fishing boat...to "warn off" the power squadron that seems to enjoy harassing fishermen so much. And be prepared to use them on some of the other "tanglers" who apparently are blind and cannot see your trolling lines out behind your boat.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Other than that, just enjoy the heck out of a fish producing pond.[/#0000ff]

[laugh]Hehehehehe. That's exactly what I ws going to say Pat.. I'd probably say get the .50 cals first then the bug juice. As bad as the skeeters can get out there I find the pow-squad more "buggy"[Wink]
