I know this was yesterday, but this has been my first chance to post. I had yesterday off (finally) so I went to Deer Creek for the morning. I really wanted to go to Jordanelle but couldn't make myself use the extra gas. I put my tube in the car and headed off around 8:30. Having only one car for both myself and my wife stinks. i can't leave any earlier than 8:00 or she misses work! Anyways, I decided to paddle around the island and try my luck. I set up some small paddlebugs with nightcrawler to try my luck for perch an cast a luckycraft. Nothing. i did get some nibbles on the perch setup, but nothing stuck. This happened all afternoon, in around 45 feet of water. I had some follow all the way up to the surface, but nothing on a hook. So annoying! Ive never had so much trouble hooking those guys! Anyways, crankbaits werent doing the trick, so i dropped anchor and decided to jig. I put out a worm under a bobber just for the heck of it, and Im glad I did as that was the only producing method. Landed 2 rainbows, the first around 18" and the second a 12" planter. Right after the second catch, the power brigade showed up, chopping up the lake. Why o they feel the need to speed by only 30' off shore? This prompted me to head in, and as I turned tail, the W picked up sometin fierce. Luckily it was in my direction and blew me to my car. The fastest Ive ever made it back to shore. Not a bad day, but I was hoping to get some of those perchies in my cage to take home for lunch. Perhaps the extra gas to the Nelle may have been worth it.
