May 30, 2007 - Volunteers throughout Oakland and Macomb counties will have the opportunity to participate in stewardship and educational activities as part of the Clinton River Watershed Council's (CRWC) River Day on Saturday, June 9.

The event is being held in conjunction with the third annual Water Week, which the Southeast Michigan Council of Governments (SEMCOG) is holding from Saturday, June 2 through Sunday, June 10.

River Day will include several events throughout the watershed, including the Rochester Riverfest at the Rochester Municipal Park, which includes a pancake breakfast, riverfest activities, a nature writing contest, and a farmer's market.

The River Day events also include George W. Kuhn Retention Treatment Facility tours, a fishing derby at Riverside Park in Auburn Hills, a native plant installation in Clarkston, and Pontiac Waste Water Treatment Plant tours.

In the lakes area, River Day activities include a garlic mustard pull and cleanup event. Volunteers can pull garlic mustard from floodplains and remove debris from the Clinton River. Volunteers are asked to meet at the Drayton Plains Nature Center parking lot at 10 a.m. and work until 1 p.m. A total of 10 volunteers are needed. Contact Heather Huffstutler with Oakland Land Conservancy at 248.601.2816 to register.

The CRWC will also be offering additional activities non-excusive to River Day itself throughout Water Week in both counties.
