Met a buddy and his kiddo down at Farmington pond on June 1st. I got there about 45 minutes before they did and managed 2 planter rainbows on a spinner. Fished where the water is flowing into the pond. There were 3 or 4 other groups bait fishing around the pond however I did not see any other fish being caught.

The other 2 showed up just before dark (great time to start fishing)[unsure] We tried like the dickens to get then kid into at least one fish before we called it a night.... We were not having much luck until I tossed one last half hearted cast, and WHAM! (alright, more like snag!). No fight at all, just kinda a steady pull, bouncing off the rocks. Had a hard time telling what it was right until we got it up to shore because it was so dark.......Thats when we discovered they are stocking a never before seen white striped orb trout here in Utah.

Caught in about 4-8 feet of water roughly 60 feet off shore

You always hear of anglers catching fish shaped like a football, but rarely shaped like a tennis ball!

What was it feeding on, and how did it taste?[]

It took a small spinner[] It was catch and release, did'nt smell like a regular fish so I dared not taste it (how would you fillet it anyway?), odor was a cross between sweaty gym bag and doggy slobber.

Its called Tennis Ballus aquaticus, normally a nocturnal bottom feeder. But it is, like tuna, sold in cans at stores.[]

Just thinking its a wonder that you hooked someones ball like that and didn't have more trouble[laugh]
