Whitebass have slowed some in the past few days. The current
in the lakes have slowed and the bite has slowed with it. This years
minnows are just beginning to show up in the flats on the mainlakes. As
the minnows get thicker the jumps should begin anytime. Lake Barkley
seems to have the best current this week. Largemouth are still being
taken on Carolina rigged plastic worms from the ledges along the main
river channels in both lakes. The catches are spotty but some heavy fish
are being caught. Catfishing has really improved below Kentucky Dam.
Most fishermen are fishing along the bottom with cutbait. Bluegill are
still very good early and late. Crickets and nightcrawlers are the
better baits. Most of the bluegill are being caught around the deeper
docks and deep points. Crappie fishing is slow at best. There are very
few crappie fishermen out in either lake. Sauger are slow.

TIP: Take sunscreen and plenty of water for the extreme heat of July.

BITS AND PIECES: "Success is how high you bounce when you hit bottom."
General George Patton

www.kentuckylakebarkley.com
