I thought it might be fun to hear some of your most unbelievable (but true of course) fish stories. I have one that I tell my friends and they kinda just look at me like I'm dumb.
Anyway, I was fishin off the rocks with my family when I was a kid (I think at recapture lake). We were using usual kid bait, marshmallows/worms etc etc. Anyway, my sister was dangling her line down in the water just off the rocks as she was getting a worm out to bait her hook.
Her hook had nothing on it as I was witness. She starts getting a violent tug on her fishing line, she pulls her line up and there's a 13-14" trout on it.
The fishing line had looped around the fish right behind its front fins and the hook had caught back on the line so the line looped around the fish. It wasnt even hooked. Very matter of chance!
Post your unbelieveable stories here.

I've got one, I was fishing at Quail, I had a nice bite, so I jerked to hook the fish I was using a worm, anyway this fish was fighting so hard I was sure I had a 5# fish. Well when I finally got it to shore it was a turtle. Apperently someone's pet was no longer wanted so they decided to let it go in the lake[unsure]. Anyway it was a great fight. And I ended up with a new pet.[

While ice fishing with my cousin at Currant Creek. He was using his patented "sleeping technique". When he woke up his pole was gone. Thinking I was playing a (another) joke on him, he was looking around in the sled and my junk to see where I hid the pole. When I finally convinced him that I was not joking and that I really didn't know where his pole was, he got out his 2nd pole and reluctantly started fishing again. A few minutes later I got a bite and reeled in the fish. Up on the hard deck, I noticed that it had another lure in its mouth with the line still attached. I pulled the line up through the ice-hole and lo and behold, it was my cousins fishing pole! He still has it.

[black]Back when the earth and I were very young, I was on vacation with my parents at Yellowstone Park, and we were shore fishing in Yellowstone Lake. We were on a sandy beach, and had caught and kept quite a few fish which were on a stringer in the water at my feet.[/black]

My family was down the beach, and because the fishing activity was so good, it held my total attention.

As I was reeling in a fish, I looked back at my parents to see if they aware of my great skill. Both of my parent were waving at me. I looked back down the beach behind me, and was face to face with a large grizzly bear. I mean face to face, we were exchanging breathe.
I dropped my rod, and started backing up. I guess that the stringer of fish looked like a better lunch than a skinny kid, and the bear munched one of the fish, and carried the whole stringer back up the beach and into the woods.
[black]I suspect that I wasn't the first fisherman to provide that bear his lunch on that beach. Back then, there were bears everywhere in the park, now it's hard to find one.[/black]

While fishing the green river a couple of years back I watched the brother in law of a fishing buddy catch a 27" brown with a 14" trout half digested and hanging 1/2 way out of the browns mouth. I still don't know how it managed to take his 5" repala with the other fish half swallowed, man what an apetite!

I was fishing one time and actually didn't catch anything![sly]
No, but seriously. I was fishing at roy pond with my son(tandem crawlers) and he got a good bite. I set the hook and handed him the pole and it started to pull him toward the water! I got behind him to help and he struggled for 5 minutes to land the 2 fish on either hook. A 5# cat and a 9# carp. Not too great but i have another.
A good friend and his brother(along with our kids) were icing Daniels a few years ago when our kids were still very young. Rob(my buddy's brother), had 2 kids in his tent and it was cramped. The oldest boy decided to exit hastily sending a brand new ugly stick ice rod and a $75 reel into the drink. He was furious. We were fishing in 22' of water and zero visibility even in the tent. Luckily i had 6 or 7 extras and gave him one of mine. 2 hours passed and he got a good hit and set the hook, A good fish. He got the fish close to the hole and saw some line tangled in his line and grabbed the fish and the other line through the hole and began pulling up the line.he got ahold of the poleand it started jerking in his hand and he reeled in the second fish on the previously lost pole! I got a ton of wacked out stories like this.
I caught a 14" splake at Causey from the shore a few years ago. While i was reeling it in it suddenly got heavier or a second wind(kind of funny to say that about a 14" splake) and started fighting good. As o got it closer there were 2 fish coming in. I could still not figure out what i had going on. I pulled them onto the bank and started examining them. The first fish had evidently swallowed and tried to pass someones wet nymph fly. It was protruding out of the poor fishes bung hole about 6". I think the fish i was reeling in with the fly "trolling" enticed a greedy buddy to eat the fly. Back then i didn't have a camera but i wish i did now. That's enough typing for now.[cool]

Here is a sea story from my active duty days.
It was the night before were were to leave on a 6mo deployment and some guys were fishing from the fantail of our destroyer. Well one of them caught a huge fish (sea bass I believe). So we all decided to give it a shot. Well in the Cooper River of SC. there are lots of cat fish. One of the guys didn't like to handle them so someone else volunteered to help him and remove all hooks from catfish. Needless to say that someone ended up getting impaled with a catfish fin. I thought he was messing around till I saw the fish stuck to his hand. I told him to wait till I ran and got some side cutters. When I returned with the side cutters he would not let me cut off the fin as it was stuck well through his finger. Well I ran to wake up the corpsman (it was late at night). The corpsman was suprised with his late wake up but told me to get that sailor to sickbay.
Longer story short, the corpsman did exactly what I was going to do but I guess it mattered to that kid that a corpsman was the one wielding the pliers. [crazy]

I Was ice fishing with my brother in law at the berry we were not catching nothing till all of a sudden both of are poles are going crazy so i set the hook and he sets his as i was reeling it up i knew there was a problem it was comeing up to fast then as it got closer to the hole i thought ohh we snaged each others line so i let him finish to bring the fish through his hole and to be amazed that cut had both of are paddle bugs in his mouth and that was the most amazing thing ive seen

At at the berry a couple years ago, I was catching lots of fish on a certain crankbait when I finally lost it to a fish so I put another on and kept on fishing. Not two minutes later I caught that fish and got my crankbait back. I still use it today it is one of my "go to lures " when things get slow.

My favorite most unbelievable yet true fish stories are all told by Bassrods! Take your pick -- any of his reports will do fine.

Are you looking for true lies or damn lies?
My great uncle Laif used to tell one that while walking along a heavily forested stream bank when he walked up on a hungry bear that wanted his fish more than him, dropping the fish he ran like crazy, while looking back to see witch juicy morsel the bear preferred to eat knocked his head on a low hanging branch so hard that, plop it fell in the water(his head) thinking fast, he baited his hook with a plug of tobacco , casting just up stream , he soon had the lost body part hooked and back in place.[

This is the weirdest thing that has happened to me. While fishing for browns above Tropic Res. earlier this spring I started reeling in a small brown when I had something tug on my line like crazy. I have had other fish hit my line when I have reeled in small fish so I figured a bigger brown had just struck the small one on my line. Then as soon as it happened it stopped and I continued to reel in the fish that was now not fighting at all. I looked down stream to see a big beaver swimming away. So I get the now mangled fish to me to see huge teeth marks through its midsection where the beaver had tried to snatch it.

Beavers eat fish? Thats a pretty cool story. Too bad you didn't snag hook the beaver, I bet that'd be a fight.

I caught a beaver on a fly in the Uintas several years back. Well I should say I hooked one. Didn't even try to bring him in but wanted my fly back. Realized that wasn't going to happen and broke my line.
