Ok BFTer's I just had a trip drop into my lap to go to Alaska. My boss's wife fell down some stairs and he can not go so I have to go in his place. (darn) any way there is not time to plan as I leave tonight and will only be up there through Tue. I am banking on having all day Sunday to play some where. can anyone recommend any day trips. I do not care what I am fishing for, just fishing in Alaska. Also for those of you that have been how did you get fish home. I will be in Anchorage.

Thanks

Wow! I dunno jack about specifics up there, but congrats on the trip. I am sure someone will chime in. You also might check out the Alaska board, and maybe the charter board. [cool]

As far as getting fish back try and take just a carry on and one piece of luggage. You could take an empty cooler as the 2nd piece or you could have a processor in Alaska sell you a fish box to bring your fish home with. You would have to pay for the fish to be processed (fileted, sealed in vacuum bags and flash frozen so that they travel well in) and for the fish box, which is like a styrofoam cooler in a cardboard box. Many of the lodges & hotels, etc. have coolers available for fish storage. We went on a halibut charter from Homer which is about 4 hours from Anchorage. Seward also has a halibut charter fleet & they are only 2 hrs from Anchorage. Many of these charters will do halibut & salmon combined. This early in the season the kings are about all that will be running & maybe some early reds. Try & find a guide or a charter since you'll only be there for a short time. It will be much more enjoyable that way. You could always fight the muck, mud & crowds on Ship Creek in Anchorage. At least walk over there & take a look. It's fun to see the kings running to the weir dam. Good luck. Wish it was me going!
