Hi my name is niki and I am in need of a new pole! Right now I have a Shakespeare from around 1978!! (it was my dads) I have been looking at a ton of Ugly Stiks but there are so many types, I don't know which is best for me.
I fish in Ohio's Portage Lakes area
I am not sure all the fish here, but I have seen Catfish, Pikes and Bass.
I usually fish from the shore, but occasionally I do go out on the boat.
I am not very educated in the different types, but I think the reel I have now is a Spinning Reel and I really like it.
Thanks,
niki

First welcome to BFT, Seeing as your talking fresh water, I'd suggest a 7' med.heavy rod for bass, pike and a good catfish. Med.heavy is good for your single hook baiting. If you throw alot of lures get a med.

I was looking at a couple, and I was wondering if you think any are good for me.

I notice there are a lot of categories for the rods. Like the third link says catfish, so does that mean it is only good for cat fishing?
Also, I was looking at the line capacity and I was wondering if even though it says #-15, can you use 20lb line?
Sorry for all the questions. I am trying to learn!
Thanks !!

Nikiway, you can use a higher Lb test if you go braided. Fireline and powerpro are good choices. The uglylite seems to fit the bill as the others have stated. Rods are made specific for types of fishing. Boat rods are stiffer for back bone.
