All,

Going down to Maple Grove camping with the fam in a few weeks. Scipio lake is about 7 miles away it appears, going to make at least one outing out there, any info on it that anybody would like to share? I've never been in that area at all.

thanks in advance

Scipio Res used to be stocked with Bass a long time ago. Far as I know there is nothing in the lake at all that I'm aware of. The east side of the lake is posted no trespassing leaving the dam area and and a chunk of ground from the dam on the east side to the cattle guard for fishing and then it is posted again. But again I don't believe there is any fish whatsoever in the pond. It is very shallow and is usually drained by the end of August, filling back up after irrigation season the end of September.
As was mentioned, there are some planter fish in the creek at Maple Grove.

cool...thank you. Just saw the stocking report and it looks like it was stocked a few weeks ago. Hopefully they stock it again before we get there in mid-july. I'll have all my kids with me so really just looking for a place for the kids to have some fun.

Thanks for the info again

Some bass would be nice....I've never caught a bass ever. I may go check it out and will at least go check on access/conditions. Not going to be there till late on the 13th of July, so it's a little more than 2 weeks away still.

thanks for the info

I wouldn't waste a minute at the pond. The farmers in Scipio have to drain it almost dry every year. The creek running into it oughta be worthwhile.

Thanks Geezer....any recommendations as to where in the creek? Is it such that you can go anywhere or are there spots that are better. I imagine that if they stock it it can't be too small.

thanks again

It is indeed a small creek that you can jump across without getting wet in some places. The campground is against the mountain side and the best fishing is from the camground itself in and around the south end of the campsites down about a half mile or so just outside the camp boundaries.

Some years are worse and or better than others regarding rattlesnakes in the area so be on the look out. The camp host was bitten last year right next to one of the water spickets near his camp.

Rattlesnakes!

Well....that adds a twist to things. I'll be on the lookout. Not as concerned about me and the kids, but we'll have the dogs with us, they're not as smart sometimes.

thanks for the heads up.
