Hoop Lake is pretty easy to fish. Basically planters. Powerbait, worm and marshmellow, spinners particularly orange and woolly worms behind a bubble will all work. For the most part stay on the north to northwest part of the lake by the dam and you will catch plenty of fish. If you have a small boat just troll a spinner around. The scenery is also awesome. If you have time take the road back to the west, it forks off about 3 miles below the lake, should see plenty of elk, deer, moose and possibly some bighorns. It is a very nice evening ride. If you keep going past hoop lake that road will take you to spirit lake.

What fireman said is true. I have a few things to add. If you continue to Spirit Lake, about 2 miles past Hoop Lake you will cross a stream. It is called Burnt Fork Creek, it has tons of Brook Trout in it that will hit just about anything you chose to put in the creek. You can hike the Burnt Fork trail head up into Cabel Meadows, its about a 7 mile hike one way but worth every bit of effort.
If you get a good map of the area you find all kinds of lakes and streams to explore, most either on a road or just off the road. You can download and print one for free at topozone.com if you can't find one where you live.
I will be there on my annual pilgrimage the first week in Aug. Have fun and enjoy the high country of the north slope. Please don't tell the Coyotes I'm coming. I have a surprise party planned for them when I'm up there.

If you want some easy access and decent fishing for larger fish, try Sheep Creek Lake, east of the Spirit Lake turnoff. Cutts to 22 inches. Flies and streamers work best. Not sure if bait is even allowed, so check the regs. Also, its catch and release.
Be aware that the road from Hoop to the Spirit Lake area is a bugger. Very rough and slow going last time I did it.
Hoop is a stocker lake, as was already said.

Hoop lake is a great place to camp and take the kids to catch a few fish. Take a tube and your fly rod for some good evening dry fly slurping. The east side of the lake campground is the trial head for Cabel lake (great day hike). The horse stables are on that side and have a fair amount of flies along with it, I suggest the west campground.

[#808000]I was up that way today and hit Hoops, like everyone said it is easy to fish and the kids have fun. Everything right now is about 12" planters. We also went over to Sheep Creek Lake but we didn't fish, we were just on a scenic drive by then the family was wore out. The road is pretty bad past Hoops for about 3 or 4 miles and then it is not to bad. Here is some pics from today of the area up there and what it looks like.[/#808000]

[#808000]I forgot to add we hit Burnt Fork Creek for a couple of Hours. I love this creek!! It is a great brookie and native cutt creek, caught both today. The brookies I caught today were some of the prettiest colored brookies I have seen for awhile. You need to leave the road though and walk either up or down the creek and there are some nice holes to hit. I was using a small Gold and Yellow Panther Martin. The area up there is great. There is plenty of places to get away from people and enjoy the Uintas. I can be at Hoops in a little over half an hour from my house and there are plenty of other lakes like IFG said that can be hiked into that are not that far of a hike. These areas were my old stomping grounds when I was growing up, and they are the same now as they were in the early 90's.[/#808000]

[#808000]One thing to add about Sheep Creek Lake is that it is hard to fish from the shore due to underwater forage around the shore. A float tube or pontoon and you will be set. The regs say Artificial only and you can keep two and only on can be a cutt and it must be over 22".[/#808000]

Dude nice report and I am very jealous. The Uintas are one of my favorite places it kills me that I can not seem to make more time to get up there and they are only what about 1.5 hrs away form SLC. By the way how is the back healing, I hope well.

[#808000]Ya the Uintas are very nice and even though most of them are in Utah I always considered the north slope as part of Wyoming just because it was so close.[/#808000]
[#808000][/#808000]
[#808000]The back is healing but very slow. It pretty much has changed all my summer plans, like boating and camping, but that is life. I am just hoping to be well enough for hunting season.[/#808000]

My dad used to take me there as a kid and I would like to do the same with mine. Would I be able to get a 30' fiver up there without any issues?
