Had time to fish some creeks for a few hours the other afternoon. Fishing was good and the scenery was even better.[cool] The fish were spooking in the shallow crystal clear water but with longer casts or a little stealth I had a good chance of getting a bite every cast. Most of the fish were only 5”-9” but I did catch several nice sized native cutthroats. Many of the larger cutthroats were hiding below undercut banks and I could watch them charge out to get my spinner. I can't get enough of sight fishing. []

I was planning on mostly fly fishing but when I opened my fly rod case my fly rod was not in there. Next time I’ll make sure my fly rod is in the case before I leave home.[crazy] I caught most of the fish on small spinners. I also fished with a pieces of night crawler while I continued my experiment with circle hooks. The water temp was already pushing the mid 60’s [unsure]. I released most of the fish ASAP to reduce the mortality. Here’s some pictures of some average sized native cutthroats.

The fish in the bottom picture was caught on a circle hook. Notice it is hooked perfectly in the mouth just like all of the other fish I caught on circle hooks this day. I’m very pleased with circle hooks so far and will continue to experiment with them.
I wanted to limit the hot spotting I do on small creeks so send me a PM if you want more information. There are many creeks in Eastern Idaho that offer some fantastic fishing right now.[]
