Went to Rockport this weekend for a family reunion. Fished for Perch and we found some thanks to some of you here on BFT. Caught them on worms and worms on a small rubber jug in 14-9’ of water. I took turns taking different groups out. One of my cousin’s husbands had not had much experience at fishing and he had a blast on Sat night even though he only caught 2 perch and one bow that spit the hook at the boat. He was sure excited! I love to take those that don’t get the opportunity to go very often. He out fished me 3-0 that eve trip but just watching him was worth it.
We caught around 25 perch and 6-8 bows for the weekend in between visiting with the family. Those bows sure do fight hard there what a blast. We also went looking for the geocache the DNR has set up for their 50th birthday and found the Gold Coin! Thanks DNR. This is the second cache we have found and have at least 6 more planned for the summer.

Thanks for posting your report, any size to the perch? Way to go on finding the gold coin. Where can I get some info on finding those other coins, thanks. WH2

Also hit the Rock on Sunday am. Found the perch and smallies.

Fished on Sunday from 6:30am-9:30am and 2 of us easily had our limit on perch (of the larger variety) and about 10-15 smallies (all released safe and sound). One 13" bow. When we left they were still biting strong.

The trick on the perch was to actually fish the weeds through the weeds. Yes through. The tops of the coontail - type weeds are providing shade/cover to large groups of fish beneath them. We found them "by accident" and then anchored, fished right next to the boat and literally had fish on almost every drop. About 10' deep.

The perch are filling up on snails that are probably clinging on the weeds - some of the perch were stuffed.

The perch were fat. The biggest I have seen in a long time while perch fishing. The biggest was at least 13”. WE fried some up last night for dinner and they were good. I love perch especially big ones (more than one or two bites per fillet).
You can get more info on the DNR geocache at any State Park (usually the fee booth). It has to be a STATE PARK like Rockport, Jordanelle or Utah Lake or Bear Lake etc. You can also get more info by going to their web site at http://stateparks.utah.gov/50th/ They are doing a thing for the 50th anniversary of the State Parks . It is fun to go looking for them when the fish stop biting. There is not always a coin but usually a small prize for everyone who is with you (one per person). Pencils, bookmarks, stickers etc.
