Out4aFloat is back from his honeymoon so it was time to hit Jordanelle and see how much he remembered from fishing with bassrods.

We were on the water by six and I had my first two bass by five after six. Was thinking I must have been paying really good attention at the class because this is really easy. No more fish for me for a hour. All in all I caught ten bass. Not too bad for my first time ever going after bass and not being able to kick as far as I would have liked too.

Around noon the bass were done playing but some kind of little fish kept hitting the different baits so I switched to something small to see if I could tell what was messing up the bass fishing. Turned out to be a ton of little Perch. Caught about 30 before getting bored of them and heading for the car.

Nice catch. Any other species ? How deep ?

Out4aFloat caught both small and large mouth bass and then some tiny perch. I'm not sure what I caught as I kept catching bass with no markings on the sides at all.[unsure] I'm wating for pics so I can ask the experts if they are large or small. I always seem to get the odd ones. Most of the perch I caught were just little ones. Under 7 inches with a few over 10 to keep things interesting.

The wind was blowing before we got there and most of the day so the rising trout and chubs didn't make a appearance.

Most of the bass were within a few feet of the edge or shallow areas. I caught more on Gulp minnows but O4aF did better with a green worm. The perch were in water anywhere from seven to only two feet. There was nothing I could find they wouldn't hit.

Well it was a good day by far on the nell. As for the wind I couldn't complain, there was a slight breeze but not "wind"[cool] We caught a few small ones at first then moved around and found some bigger ones. I did catch one Large Mouth, maybe a second one.

Here are some pics of the day.

[cool][#0000ff]See, it helps to pay attention in class...and to have a good memory. Glad you guys were able to get into some action.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]The bass with "no markings" are likely smallmouth. Some have more color than others. As a rule, they are bronze or brownish colored. Largemouths are easy to identify by comparison. They usually have a greenish tinge and a black stripe or series of black splotches down the lateral line along the sides.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]I gotta warn you guys though. As the water drops up there, the fishing will change. Within a month or so, there will be no fish in the real shallow water and you have to hunt harder to find them. Still lots of them in that area, but in deeper water. The same tactics will work though, so once you find them you can usually catch them.[/#0000ff]

Hey Richard, I would like to go up with guys one of these days, if you'll have me. It would be nice to have some fellow Oremites to fish with--and now that I have the tube I need to get some use out of it.

I am all over the Slimers at Jordanelle, plus no ROAD CONSTRUCTION! If you guys get a floatilla for the nell, I am all over that regardless of the puppy![cool]
[signature]
Youcould always bring the puppy up there to be used as Borwn bait. hehe. But if the Co asks it is not live bait but and moving bobber. [cool]

I would get a ticket for causing a wake in the NO WAKE area cause this little guy HATES water![cool][cool][cool]
He does like to drink out of a hose however.

Thanks for the clarification there TubeDude. As usual most of the fish I caught didn't look like the pictures at the ramp so it was a little confusing. I know the fins are a little different also but not having one to compare to another that didn't help much either.

I am glad they haven't gone deep yet as I forgot to check the batteries in the fish finder and they were dead. I have been using both tubes and the spare batteries were still in the old tube. That reminds me I had better go out and do that right now.

Glad to have you anytime. Send me a PM and we can work something out.

[font "Microsoft Sans Serif"][#500000][size 3]wonder if he hates the water because the fish are bigger than he is.. [laugh][/size][/#500000][/font]

[cool][#0000ff]"NO ROAD CONSTRUCTION"???? When was the last time you hit Rock Cliffs? The last couple of times I have gone up (recently), I had long waits while they let single lanes of traffic through...on the road between Hwy 40 and the Rock Cliffs turnoff. It was okay going in early, but added about 20 minutes to the drive out on the last trip. They are doing a big project overlooking the valley and running a big water line.[/#0000ff]

Dang you are right. We were up there about a month ago and the cones were there but the lanes were open. Forgot about that cause I didn't have to deal with it at that time.

[cool][#0000ff]It is still usually worth the hassle after the trip though. And, gaswise it is reasonably close.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]We still gotta do a perchathon hook and cook.[/#0000ff]

SWEET![Wink]

[cool][#0000ff]If you ever want a multi species day, all on flies in skinny water, now is the time. Perch, smallmouth, largies, chubs and trout are all shallow...feeding on inch long perch fry. Almost any white pattern fished two or three feet deep will get bit.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]I'm thinkin' Monday or Tuesday of next week. Anybody else feelin' frisky?[/#0000ff]
